On the stock sleeves? Something like 4.030.

On new sleeves? The sky's the limit on that one.

Iron block, sleeves?

Most ppl will have 4.065-4.070 bore if sonic checked. Some can't go that big tho.

ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now here's a guy you really want to get advice from...LMAO

You can go 4.06 maximum on those blocks. I personally don't recommend it if you're using it for racing. Also for a Turbo or Super charged application I'd stick with 4.02. If something happens to the block to where it's cut internally then you have some room to have the block bored. But at the end of the day the LQ4 blocks are relatively cheap.

I can't see boring it that large unless you're filling a portion of the block. 4.07 bore would really be on the edge I would think. But man that would be a monster motor for sure with a full stroke.

If NA and sonic tested block 4.065 is at the limit. If FI or big N2O shot you should stay at 4.030.

4.03" will be a very very common size and you would be able to find off the shelf parts very easily.

Alot of places go that big all the time, but you have to find a good block. AES has said they have gone 4.08 but that was for a race engine.

Makes sense. The manufacturing process definitely has some variability to it.

We've gone to 4.080 on 6.0 iron, if I recall sonic checked .130", anything less would have issues keeping bores round.

We've installed repair sleeves in 6.0 iron block, the OD of repair sleeve is 4.190"
that didn't break through into water jacket (boring cylinder to 4.190"). That would back up the .130" wall thickness at 4.080.

Fraser, what's the max cubic inch motor you've built out of an LQ4? Bore and stroke?

4.080" bore, been running in a street driven silverado.
4.125" crankshaft

If I was to use a bore size of 4.080, i'd prefer it to be under 600hp

4.030" I normally see minimum thickness at .155"
