Largest cam on an LS2 w/ported LS3 heads
What's the largest cam I can run with this combo: a stock LS2 bottom end/pistons but with LS3 heads that have been ported....
Here are the head specs:
Heads have stock Ls3 valves with a race valve job
70.4 cc chambers hand finished
650 lift springs, titanium retainers
stock rockers
deck milled .020"
thoughts?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought lift had very little to do with PTV clearance, and it is duration and overlap you have to worrry about.
I was running a StreetSweeper-HT with my LS3 heads, and when my cam designer showed me the specs of the new cam, I about **** a brick. He said "trust me", and I still had plenty room...no fly cutting.
My suggestion is to talk to a cam designer...and be careful of who you listen to here. When I was shopping for L92 heads, I got some terrible advice here.

FWIW, our TRuTorq Level 1 makes 425-435 in G8's with the L76 6L80 (unlocked) combo. It's a 219/224 115. The level 3 (223/236 115) routinely makes 450-460.
Anything larger just decreases low end torque and driveability. You won't really make any more power upstairs unless you are willing to change the intake and spin the motor higher.

The LY6 does come with fly cut pistons, cam is 223/231 @ .050 - .610/.617 on a 112LSA.
Lots of power....no dyno numbers or 1/4 times yet tho. I will say this....even with a full tank of gas thats located behind the rear wheels...on a 50mph punch next to me son in his car while cruising a blacktop 4 lane hiway...resulted in a downshift to 2nd with the wheels breaking loose and (posi) spinning for a couple of seconds before grabbing. And its not even "fine tuned" yet.
Regardless...any time you take the heads off and change anything, there is absolutely positively NO excuse to not check PTV.
if your just talking about valves and seats and not the heads and other parts themselves...generally something along the line of a 5 angle valve job on the seats, some will even grind 3 angles into the valve itself...making for smoother airflow past the valve/seat , even possibly special valve seats. It might also pertain to specific valve guide specs, lighter/lightened valves, etc.
XtraCajunSS is awesome and has been VERY helpful to me and is a wealth of knowledge!!
I really think you need to slow down and think about what you're doing though. Sounds like you're just wanting huge dick-waving dyno numbers. That's the WRONG way to go about modding your car.
My $0.02.
