A gent in Saudi Arabia done the same thing but he didn't provide much detailed, all I know is:

I'm doing the same project as yours hoping to get close to 460rwhp with 430 rwtq, but one problem for sure will arise is the 4L60e will not hold for long and will require replacement. The 4L60e is so weak. Many here done 450rwhp on 243 heads but after couple of months, alot of 4L60e break or get loose. Here they use the TH400 but it is onlt three gears.
Through reading, the 4L80e can handle up to 600rwhp as OME and with re-built performance kit it will handel north of +1000rwhp.
Thanks

- LS2 6.0 Liter Aluminum block.
- LS3 Intake Manifold ported.
- TB 92mm.
- LS3 Cylinder Heads (None ported, however it is polished).
- Kooks headers.
- Magnaflow cat back.
- Upgraged push rods.
- OME fuel pump.
- Cold Air Intake.
- Custom Cam.
- Catch Can & Breather.

The 4l80e is an accepted reality for me, as I do not expect the 4l60 to last much more than a year. Maybe even a few months. I refuse to go manual, because as my dad likes to say, I love drinking my coffee on the way to work, and you cant drive, shift, and drink your coffee.
I hope I can do this all for less than buying a new ls3 camaro, but that seems like eventually I will be almost at that point.
I got the valvecovers all painted, heads back from Kehl Tech, alls Im waiting on are the valvesprings (which were supposed to be drop shipped direct from PAC) and thunder racing (which I received an email saying they were waiting on part of my order to come back into stock they expected less than 10 days).
I primed the block, but don't know what color I want to paint it. I was going to go for silverish to make it look like aluminum, but Im thinking cast iron is going to look like cast iron almost no matter what. So maybe Ill paint it the same metallic grey I did the valvecovers. I used rustoleum wheel paint, I got it at autozone.

While I said earlier in the thread that I had no 'expectation' of power, I do not. I, however, may be a bit disappointed if I do not make north of 400whp.

So I primed the block, and the primer fell off. Tearing the block down to have it hot-tanked/cleaned. Stay tuned.
Got the PAC springs in thursday, still no Thunder Racing. I did however receive an email from them letting me know at least one part of my order would be delayed 1-10 days due to being currently out of stock.
Got the other motor out of the car finally on Sunday morning.
As suspected, broken rod.
Ill let everyone know once I get the block back from being cleaned, Ill have to buy the new crankshaft bearings now, too I suppose.

Cancelled my order with Thunder today.
They told me the ground cams were 'in' from comp yesterday, and they would be shipping out last night (I would receive a tracking number when the order goes out). I requested that my parts be overnighted to me, so I could get the engine together this weekend. No email, no call, no parts today. Needless to say, I am disappointed.
So I called EPS. Had a cam custom spec'd for me, and I ordered pushrods and an ls2 chain from Geoff as well.
Very nice guy, I got a few 'free' life lessons as well as some of his suggestions along with my order as well
So, build will further progress when I receive the internal parts I need..

Dude, you're doing the same build I am. I just purchased an LQ4 out of a 2004Express Van..From the Junk Yard I took a trip to the Speed Shop and picked a set of L92 Heads (Bare) and a Fast 102mm LsxR Intake Manifold.
I contacted a recommended builder and he said I should have no problem achieving 500 rwhp with a .030 over bore, forged pitons, 6.125 rods and a rebalanced stock crank..
Obviously this will all be achieved with the heads worked and a custom cam..
This setup will eventually make it into my 98' silverado...
Good Luck with your build.

Buying ls2 pistons.. the ones that just came out of the lq4 look terrible.. they have lots of blowby and I figure I can use the healthy compression bump..
But I am stretching the rod bolts.. and hopefully I can get the pistons in by next week.
Miserable that this is taking so long.

So all of the parts are sitting in the garage, I kept bidding on used ls2 pistons on ebay and losing.. prices going far above what I wanted to pay for used pistons..
Still checking once or twice a week.
I got a decent promotion at work and Ive been working a lot, so the progress got halted. I expect Ill have more time once the days get longer in early spring. Hopefully get this thing done before summer/june.

my setup will be:
.020 over 03 truck block
dished lq4 pistons
stock l92 heads with dual springs and ti retainers
LS7 takeout cam
just a stock motor..
hoping itll make at least 400bhp. if by some chance thats what it makes at the wheels.. i will be ecstatic

Thank you
I meet the gent and found out that he milled the heads up to 0.030" with flycut, and found this cam is similar to 21st century muscle cars cam which some made over 500 rwhp.
You should see Spinmonster in corvette forum what he managed to do with stock piston of LS2.
The LS3 heads loves compression with minimal overlap...
I'm doing the same project very soon to see by my self
