Default Ls1tech! Let's build together an engine for me!

Hey Ls1tech!

I'm working in a new project "It'll be my final project"

my plans until now is building a 429 ls3 with a stock lq9 heads
the engine will be on a Trans am WS6

I did 2 of those engines and gave me 515 N/A with stock lq9 heads/intake

But that time , It will be kind of different, this engine will be supercharged/turboed

the problems is....

I never worked on supercharger or turbo's , I spend my life with nitrous so lets see what can I do...

I want a low compression engine , max psi for the forced induction system, daily use and 800rwhp at lest on the dyno.

what pistons do I need?
any ideas ?
supercharger or turbo ? for a 5000$ average of budget.
Is is safe to spray an extra 100-150 shot ?

Thank you!

I wonder why you are switching from nitrous to a supercharger or turbo?

For a street/strip car, I prefer the supercharger over the turbo.
For your targeted power, I think that the best route would be the F1 Procharger.

I don't think that it would be a wise decision to have two power adders (nitrous + supercharger) unless you are going with a small shot (50 shot max).

Does that mean that you prefere nitrous than superchargers ?
thank you for you comment

Your budget of 5K is not enough for what you're after

Unless you can find someone who got into drugs and is selling the engine they built for next to nothing because they need to give someone cash so they don't get killed in an alley somewhere...you need to re-budget, or re-think what you're building.

5 grand is not going to happen, why dont you call a sponser to build you a engine i hear there great at that , tech is just going to give you a bunch of diff, opinions, im a procharger guy for a street car, but your budget isnt even enough for one of those

my dad just got done building a 408 motor with almost everything found for a budget. when you put together all the little things he priced his motor out to be 7500, if i remember correctly, with headers, intake, carb, etc etc. We found a hell of a deal on a forged crank at the chevy vette show at route 66 in joliet which saved him close to $400. If you look around and take your time, you will be able to find pretty good deals. If you would like to pm me, I can send you his part list and the amount he spent on each part (even down to the bolts). Possibly you are talking about $5,000 for the FI part of this build? In which case there are a decent amount of cheap turbo build write ups on this site. Like others have said, a procharger alone is above the budget, unless you know a guy, or get one used. tech will give you a bunch of different ideas, but look around on the forums in the FI section and it will start to give you ideas. Once you have some ideas narrowed down, tech can help you out a bit more

^ along with other sponsors on here...lol they will give you an idea of the cost it takes them to build a motor. If you are interested in building your own motor, just be patient and look around for budgets. If money is no option, definitely give one of the sponsors a call for this project, however with FI, expect a 10k+ build even if you do it yourself

imo its not worth buying used engine internals, in the long run how much really do you save, and what if something is messed up, i have bought alot of things off tech but one thing i wont is used internals, its just not worth it to me, not saying there arent good parts out there, but not worth it to me

If you are going with FI, you don't need 429 cubic inches. Save some money, keep the stock crank and use forged rods and pistons. Either a turbo or F1 Procharger can get you 800 rwhp with this route with a lot of boost and the right cam. Long stroke 429 will have more reliability issues being boosted than a 364 or 370.

As noted above, $5K will not get you close to an 800 hp engine. The fuel system alone for this power level will cost you $1K+ for pump/line/injectors. Hope you have a bullet proof transmission, rear and suspension now as well - 800 rwhp will find the weak points very quickly.
