people are using them for heavy boost/n2o motors. Actually AES is selling alot of them

AES also sells a 3.825 inch stroke for 4.03 bore which is 390 cid, but with a +.060 is 396 cid.

Are there any negatives to running a 4.1 or even 4.125 stroker crankshaft?

If a 413(4.005x4.005x4.1) or 427(4.060x4.060x4.125) makes more TQ/HP than a 383 LS1 or 402 LS2/LQ4/LQ9 than why I build/ or buy a smaller engine?

Very well put!
4.020 pistons are shelf items and plenty of vendors can get them, they just don't stock them for reasons you already stated.

If he truly wants a 396, he can have it for the same price as a 408, 383...etc. but I'm not going to sit here and bash his ideas, I'm going to help him. That is what ls1tech is all about and over The last 5 years, it has strayed far from that.
Very well put!

Just to contribute to a 3.5 year old thread, using a 4" crank to build a 402 and then calling it a 396 is much more historically accurate than you may think.

It goes back to the 70 to 72 396 ss models that were really 402s. But if he has the money let him spend it.

And yes I'm not sure why, but I did do that. Maybe I didn't look at the dates.
