LY9 info
I have an offroad rig with a swapped ls based engine in it that I am trying to get running right. The owner of it says the engine is an ly9 engine. Bought as a crate engine. I have hunted around and searched a bunch but have pretty well struck out on any real info on the engine. Does anyone have any info on an ly9 engine?
Is there a guide for engine ID that i might be able to use? As it was born from a crate i have no make model info to go on.
Thanx alot.

I don't see that, at least on the side of the block. I am not able to see the face of the block due to the accesories. It does have a sensor in the front cover with 3 wires. white red and black.

Slid a borescope down passed the ps pump. I see a "IV" cast into it, but the only numbers do not look like 6.0. Maybe a 8 and a 3 but they not in line, look more random of front of engine.

Well the knock sensor is on the side of the block which indicates a Gen IV block, but your timing cover has no VVT actuator. Was the cam swapped?
The absence of "6.0" makes me think you may have a 4.8 or 5.3 on your hands, but I think those actually have "4.8/5.3" on the front of the block. I would pull off the accessories and look.

No swap, as is out of GM crate (at least thats what I'm told) but concidering the shape of the engine and no indication of it ever beeing cracked open I believe it.
So at least i know its no vvt now.
Thanx.

I'm gonna say 4.8. A good friend just bought a new silverado crew cab 4wd, with a 4.8. It's got 243 heads, and an iron block.
