I sure as hell dont need to go onto a dyno to know how the car performs. If you cant feel power drop off at 6k despite revving to 7k, something is badly wrong.

That's a pretty stupid post.

I don't doubt that this cam will make serious power..but its not making it where I drive the car and worse off is NOT working as a daily driver. 89kpa at idle is hardly a daily drivable camshaft. (it drives okay but there is no brakes..and I need brakes on the street)

That's the thing though. Bigger isnt always better when it comes to camshafts, and the vast array of profiles can make selection harder, plus all this nonsense about needing "custom" profiles which are all off the shelf stuff anyway there are that many available.

I would have to disagree that all "custom" profiles are off the shelf stuff. Maybe at some places but places do spec cams specific to the setup. We have a custom .680 intake lift and 250 duration in a 427 that run real well. Idles good and pulls good basically from idle.

But that's the thing, there are I'm sure literally thousands of profiles, so custom is a relative term that would imply unique for an application.
Yet few of them actually will be unique by sheer volume of cams used and the choices available. Almost any profile is "off the shelf" unless it truly is a strange one.
And your post implies you have one of those "custom" cams sitting on a shelf ? lol

You pick the Cam to make power in it's range. If you have a 5500 stall in it make the power curve 5500-8000rpm. That power curve is going to suck for a manual car with street gears. It will make it a slow car.
Midrange curve is where it's at, not the big dick peak HP number at stupid high rpms. Atleast not for a street car.

I ended up stepping down to a 247/251 .624/.624 @112+3. I'm hoping the -15* difference will be noticeable vacuum/drivability wise and powerband wise. If I can make 550whp I'll be very happy.

If it makes 550 and carries to 6300 I'll shift at 6500 and be happy...plus my TFS245s and 102/102 should help carry it a little farther. would work well with nitrous too.

Snyper, I have a fairly large custom Grind Cam in my ERL Built LS3 447 CID Stroker. It has a set of TFS 245's on it and a FAST 102/102. LS3 Turned down Lightweight Valves, BT Racing Dbl. Valve Springs, N2O Exhaust Port, Chamber Softening, Port Matched heads and intake, 12:1 Compression, Pump Gas 93, and it Pulls Strong from idle to 7k rpm. Not to mention it has great vacuum, and the brakes will damn near put you through the windshield if you slam on them. lol
The cam is a 251/262 .623/.596 114+4 It has a Great Idle, Great Vacuum, And merely no bucking at speeds... Just at the initial converter lock up. 3-5 mph above that and it goes away. I just wanted to throw this out there to kinda offer another option for you, or at least let you know that with my setup it seems to work flawlessly. And it may be something to consider. Again, I am using the car as damn near a daily driver. lol
