Default Ls2 can it go to 455

Hey guys I am really new to this site. I have a couple of ls motors one in an Holden ss and the other has just been squired for my dad 1980 trans am, I also am a number 2 mechanic on a Mosler GT3 team. Anyway I was wondering if the ls2 will go out to 455 comfortably if so what's the best way

Aluminum lsx blocks cant be bored out. They can have a slight hone but nothing else. Iron blocks can be bored, but to get a 455 you will need an aftermarket block, or a sleeved block.

Not without sleeveing it. If you're big in road racing, I wouldn't go over a 4" stroke and with the limited bore size on stock sleeve block and 4" stroke you aren't even close.
4" bore and even a 4.125 stroke is only 414 ci. An LS3 block will give you a larger 4.060" bore and with a 4.125 stroke you will have a 427. 4.125" stroke on a stock cylinder length tends to have piston rock and wear issues, so road racing wouldn't be a good idea in my opinion.

Default 455 cube LS2

Yes they will go to 455" for naturally aspirated builds and larger via sleeving and a stroke increase. I sleeve a lot of blocks with Darton Seal Tight dry liners for 454" builds, 4.185" bore 4.125" stroke. If you need that 455" number 4.190" bore 4.125" stroke will get you there. Rings are more readily available in 4.185" however.

Another way to get there is via a 4.130" bore and 4.25" stroke. This will leave sleeve wall material for future rebuilds. Using a 4.25" stroke, max. engine size with 4.185" bore will be 468".

If you want reliability, stick with a 4" stroke or less and a 4.005" bore (for a 403).

Really comes down to budget ... how much you have to spend will determine what you can do.. bigger stroke cranks cost more, so does re-sleeving...
Thats the first consideration, then getting as many cubes as you can within your budget is the next thing and you have to consider the top end at the same time. Power is made in the heads so balanace the engine budget by seperating the top and bottom end and looking at them as two peices not one.

As you appear willing to put a chevy in your TA have you considered a BBC? Easy fit in that car.

Far less expensive route to 455 cubes - you can get 540 or more for less than the 455 LSX will cost.
