After seeing this trunnion kit installed, there is a right and wrong way to set these up. I noticed you can press the bearings too far in creating a side load resulting in notchy rough movement of the trunnion. They should operate smoothly. I gave read multiple post where people say they were not and ran them anyways.

^ Excellent point! ANY notchy feel to roller bearings is NOT GOOD. Sometimes on u-joint installs if the cap isn't centered and you press it on anyway it can cause the edge of the bearing to dig into the land and leave a tiny groove that you can barrrrrrely feel when moving the bearings. Its almost undetectable at first but run it a while you'll notice vibrations. Take the shaft back out and its worn off center when you rotate it its "glunk glunk" instead of butter smooth.

Also any contamination in there will reek havoc on those little bearings in NO time.

This or coil bind were my first thoughts. 2nd place would be insufficient clearance or out of round causing the rollers to slide as opposed to roll. I had one set of out of spec trunions that Comp replaced. But you could feel they were out of spec as they would not roll smooth consistently. They felt "notchy".

I don't know if it mattered or not but I used the Comp Cams install kit just to give me a warm and fuzzy feeling.
Everything went smooth enough and the rocker arms spun very freely with no sign of binding. I also pre-lubed the bearings. Looking into some of that ZDDPLUS zinc oil additive to help on the rocker arm to valve tip sweep lubrication. From what I read you just add 4oz at each oil change.

Update: Comp's warranty tech just called me and we spoke briefly. The just of what he said was that Comp does not know why the trunions failed. He said in very clear and plain terms that since I was not the original purchaser (I traded for this particular set) that comp would not honor any warranty. He then offered to sell me a new set for $180 something dollars, far more than I could purchase them for if I was so inclined.
Cliff notes: Comp will not stand behind their product, and it failed in roughly 3000 miles. I can no longer recommend anyone install these in your engine, as there is an obvious QC issue.

My trunnions were pretty dirty with a gritty residue. I didn't notice it until the passenger side was done...unfortunately. Maybe this is an issue with them not being cleaned prior to installation. I may just have to pull some that were cleaned and not cleaned and compare.

Still, I'd rather spend the 500 then face a catastrophic failure.

I know what I am going to say will fluff a lot of feathers. Some might take me as contentious, but in any forum, there are certainly some of us having different backgrounds and skill levels.
First off, the old saying when things don't turned out - "Don't blame on the tool, but the person using the tool".
I didn't use hammer with punch in the process. I also maintain area cleanliness, along with the usual good shop practices.
Using my lathe, turned the simple but precise fitted tool to aid during oem removal/press out, then, my mill again, as an arbor, gently reinstall/press in new Comp's trunions as per direction.
I also establish true TDC using indicator, during both removal and reinstallation, ensure relaxed valve spring pressure, to assure, rocker bolt goes in concentric and avoid false reading during torquing sequence.
It is an simple process when done correctly and without drama! End result is an quite sounding valve train. Been a couple of years, since Comp's trunions been on my car and I am not having any problem.

That is kind of what I was getting at. A lot of guys use a vice and some sockets to press them in as opposed to an arbor press. Using sockets and a vice or even worse a hammer can deform both the rocker bores and more commonly the bearing shells.
I will say though that I have seen a trunion kit personally that was out of specs with too little clearance. Comp replaced those as the improper tolerances were measurable and demonstrable.
