I also had a couple of questions for you guys in my first post.
What do you guys think about new head gaskets? I hear that the stock head gaskets can or are often reused on these, but I have never reused a head gasket before. With this combustion chamber size I am going to have the same compression ration as stock (10.9 to 1), unless I go with a thinner head gasket.
And the motor currently has 35,000 miles on it.
Reuse the stock lifters or replace them?
Any thoughts on those things?

Me personally I would never use a head gasket as its a 25-30$ part. The only head gasket I would consider reusing are cometics and even then I would probably spring for a new set as cheap insurance.

Hurry!!!
I'm at that exact point also, I have new 799's but would like to upgrade. I emailed Procomp about details a week ago and haven't received a response, maybe they've been off for the holidays?
Does anyone on this thread have any answers? Here is my email.
Hi, I'm interested in purchasing a set of Procomp PC3017-64VJ for a 2002 LS1 that will go into my daily driven '64 Nova. I was wondering if you had a specification sheet detailing all materials used?
Some of the questions I have are,
1) What type of aluminum are these heads casted from?
2) Where were they casted and machined?
3) What type of valve seats and how were they installed?
4) What type and brand are the valves?
5) What type of valve guides are used?
6) What are my chamber size options?
7) What type of valve job is performed on the 2.02" valved heads, Do they not have the option of the competition valve job?
8) Can I use all of my stock valvetrain components?
9) What valve springs are installed and what are the options?
10) If I order bare heads, would I need to have a valve job? Or could the valves just be lapped and run?
11) Have there been any common failures with Procomps heads of this type?
Sorry for all the questions about Procomp products, but the price seems to good to be true, and you know what is said about that. I need to feel confident that I'll get many years of trouble free operation.

And I am not sure if their heads are sold complete. I personally liked the idea of getting them bare so I could do what I wanted with them in regards to parts and finish work.

Dropping my dial caliper on it as best I can it looks like it is right at .388" thick.
Mine says PC3017C. The sales person that I spoke with said they were the exact same heads that were used in that shoot out. I also measured my valves while I had my dial caliper out and the intake is the 2.055 and the exhaust is the 1.6.
which part number did you end up with? I know the Pc3017-64vj shows to have a 2.02 valve size vs the ones tested on hot rod magazine showed a 2.055'' valve.

I just received my response, here are the answers.
Hello Scott,
Our heads are made of t356 aluminum, they are cast and machined in China, They are standard valve seats and I'm not positive how they are installed. The valves used are Procomp Stainless Steel Valves, the valve guides are bronze the chamber size in this particular number is 64cc but I have an as cast version which shows a 62cc chamber. The VJ option comes with a 2.055/1.6 valve job done on it and the one without the VJ on the number has a 2.02/1.55 valve job. You can use all of your stock components with these heads unless you get the VJ ones because they your valve size will change. The spring options depend on what cam you are running because we have some for hydraulic, flat tappet and solid roller options for most of our heads. If you order our heads they can be lapped and run. I have not heard of any common failures with our heads. On the contrary I have heard many great reviews about our heads.

Does anyone have one of these that they measure the across the bore, I am wanting to figure out if they will work on a 5.3l. I am mainly looking at the cnc castings with 2.02 intakes.
