I wonder if running LS2 gaskets will push the o-ring far out enough so it will seal at the back of the scratch before it starts.

Find somebody that uses a CNC rig for machining blocks. They'll deck it to square to the crank and let you know the deck height. Pick a gasket from there.
I wouldn't try any patches, they won't stick in an area that gets that hot.

I'll have to check. I just need to decide which head gaskets to buy first.

Yeah I'm not big on the idea of patching really. I would think decking the block would be the way to go. I don't really understand what you're saying about the CNC rig. Is that what most shops use to deck blocks?
