Formula Drift 2013 season opener begins April 12th on the Streets of Long Beach California and Katech will be on the grid with Matt Powers and his Nitto Tire Fatlace Nissan S14. Matt has been doing very well in previous seasons with his Torquer LS7 110 cammed LS7 crate engine, but competition is fierce in the series and more power was needed. We're taking him all the way to the top this year with a 714hp, 14.67:1 compression, Track Attack 463ci engine.

The foundation is an RHS tall deck block with 4.165" bore. A forged 4.250" stoke crankshaft, forged H-beam rods and forged 2618, hardcoat anodized pistons round out the bottom end. Pistons are kept cool with dual-nozzle piston squirters made by Katech specifically for RHS block.

The top end features Track Attack-spec cylinder heads with porting by WCCH, bronze valve guide, Katech titanium/molybdenum intake and exhaust valves, single-beehive springs, and titanium retainers. Comp Cams lifters and a very stable camshaft profile actuate the valves.

The oiling system is a Dailey 5 stage dry sump system with four scavenge and one pressure pump bolted directly to the billet pan. The drive system is made by Katech with a billet steel hub, ATI damper, and billet aluminum front cover.

The valve covers are Katech aluminum covers powdercoated with Tiger Drylac neon red with white base. I wish photos could convey how loud these covers are. I looked at them outside in the sun and it burned my retinas. Matt's wheels are powdercoated a matching color.

Engine management is handled by AEM's new Infinity system. AEM sent out a calibration engineer to work with Katech on the dyno.

His car looks soooooo much better, diggin the wheels matching the fatlace heart. Cant wait to see it run next weekend. I do hope he knocks off that hideous front bumper though. With all that, why run a standard WP? I know with power steering the belt routing is near impossible, but he could run it ps pump off the back of the dry sump.
