Default ls3 cracked block help

Bought a ls3 that needed a sleeve. Had it sleeved by a good machine shop. Put 47 miles on the engine and as I was watching it idle looking for an exhaust leak it started to white smoke. Found out it was #7 so I pulled the head and saw the blocked crack on #7 between the new sleeve and the lower coolant passage. Can this be fixed or am I just screwed out of the ton of money I just spent?

My first advise is to go to that shop that sleeved your block and get your money back or something.

Sounds like a serious issue if its a cracked block. Have any pics?

Is the crack near a cylinder bolt hole? If there was water or liquid of some sort in there I could have cracked the block when you torqued the head down. If it were cracked after the resleeve maybe you couldve seen it when you first got it back?

Hard to say then. I would take it back to the shop. Idk how your relationship is with them but they might say it wasnt there before or ask you why you didnt see it before. Since it was installed with heads and all they may claim it couldve happened on install. Good luck man. Hope it all works out for you.

Default Sleeve repair

The only Gen IV block that can be reliably repaired by doing one sleeve is the LS7.

I'm not saying it is impossible to replace one sleeve on the LS3 but I am saying that doing sleeve installs is my business and I wouldn't attempt it. On the LS2 and LS3 blocks it would be at least the entire bank and preferably the entire block to ensure success.

The only "fix" would be to try and seal the leak with Moroso Ceramic Engine Sealer. If the bore in that sleeve is still round, give that a try. Otherwise you will need to find another block.

Did you have the block crack checked? The machine shop should have offered to do that as part of the repair. The block may have been cracked from the start and it was just not found otherwise.

I had it checked first thing. I dropped it off today he says he can fix it by removing the sleeve and welding the block

He suggested that it may need 4 sleeves before the initial repair. I told him to do what it needed. He sleeved 1 and honed the rest

One of the top two places that sleeve these blocks said he would not do what you had done.

You are asking for more problems

i just bought l92 a few days ago that dropped a valve. it killed a piston a gouged # 6 sleeve and destroyed one head.

everything else is great.- i took it to the machine shop- and the guy said he will take care of it no problem. " he does it all the time"

after reading this post- im officially freaked out..

Uhmmm...I would not risk that. A new block right now will make you save money in the long run.
