Default GEN3/GEN4 conversion kit?!?

so, ive been looking at this engine and reading around and i want a 3rd opinion

my situation
car: 1999 trans am ws6
engine: ls2 from a 05-06 gto

the front cover and valley cover is said to need to be replaced when others say it does not...

well which is it?
here is the kit but it appears to be the same parts alreaady installed on the motor (and some poeple say it is)
https://sdparts.com/details/scoggin-...nter/sdlsck24x

i know ill need the extensions but those are sold for $60 at lingenfelter and i can get a ls2 new style chain from TSP for $40 so this kit seems useless in my senario

I just put a LS2 in my C5 and this is the exact kit I bought. Just finished installing the motor. And everything works perfect. The only thing with that kit is that when you go to install the Caspers Knock & Cam sensor harness you have to swap the outside pins on the cam sensor harness or it will not read. I learned the hard way and it will save you a lot of headache. Casper knows of the issue but didn't fix it.

Feel free to PM me with any questions. Best kit for the money I would do it again in a heartbeat.

I just reread your post and if the motor you are getting is being pulled of a GTO and you aren't doing any building then you won't need this kit. If your pulling from a GTO it will already have the timing & valley cover installed. No need to take it apart. Just buy a cam & knock harness and a new timing set to work with your computer. And you'll be good. You can call SDPC and order just that billet timing set and harness for about $150-$175 I'd say then you'll be set to go. Hope this helps.

You're good. Contrary to to belief there were no 58x ls2's in GTO's. Some say that there are but no one has ever put up the proof (that I saw).

Your picture is of the camshaft position sensor, I think you are talking about the crankshaft sensor black=24x And gray=58x
