Default When are rod bolts needed? L92 shortblock

fresh rebuild, zero miles, looking for 7-7500 shifts, what will be the first thing to break? Hoping for 650 crank, ported ls3's and a carb

Rod bolts and rods will be the very first thing to go at those RPM if the tune is good.

If the tune is bad (with knock and lean AFRs) look for the pistons to start failing first.

That is given that you have a stable valvetrain for those kind of RPMs.

Valvetrain will be set, more worried about rpm limits on stock bolts

I'd for sure upgrade the rod bolts and maybe even the rods themselves.

By the time you buy ARP bolts and have the rods resized you are spending almost a much as a new forged rods with ARP bolts already there.

Rod bolts are pretty cheap insurance at those RPM's.

Not sure how often it's going to see that rpm, but my GTO with ARP rod bolts has seen 7500 numerous times and 8k a few times with a carb intake on it.

Rod bolts are cheap enough insurance that they should be replaced anytime you take it over the OEM rpm limit.

On stock rods you have to resize them...that's why I said in my previous post that by the time you buy the rod bolts and resize the rods, you are spending almost as much money as brand new forged rods with ARP rod bolts.
