put about 250 miles on engine before i changed the oil. i'm using a magnetic oil plug, and was expecting to see a few shavings. but i found this. any ideas?
i used the dime to give an idea of the size.

I'm assuming you are using stock rockers? It looks like the needle bearing out of the roller rockers. Time for the Comp or CHE upgrade.

I actually had an upgrade done. Or at least I think I did. Lsr cam and springs, I'm sure of, but not sure about the roller rockers. Shouldn't that all come in the kit? Which if it did, that may be a piece from the old setup that was dropped by mistake.

Over on camaro5 someone had this happen to him with his trunion upgrade. Comp sent him a brand new set.

Well you need to take all of your rockers off. If one spilled the others are surely soon to follow.

The needle bearings are inside the rocker at the pivot point. The trunion upgrade creates a cage around the bearings to stop them from falling out. You will want to look thoroughly EVERYWHERE and see if it was just one rocker or multiple ones that spilled.

If the bearings start going through your oiling system you can end up with a toasted motor.

No doubt about it ... that is rocker bearing. There are probably many others in your engine. I would be surprised if there was only one that has come out of a rocker. Time for a trunion upgrade kit from Summit or Comp Cams.

That is not a rocker bearing! I'm doing my trunion bearing right now! The rocker bearings are if that 1/4" this looks to be 3/4 the size of the dime.

Can we get a pic of the needle bearing next to a ruler/tape measure? Also a pic of one of your rockers will let us know if you already have the trunion upgrade....

I'll take one this afternoon when I get home. My mechanic said that one or more of the lifters were damaged and very well could be a lifter bearing or pin.
