Default How? 4.100 crank without burning oil

Well I like to design things as well as build, Design 1st (Lt1 is on paper all ready: sleeved and stroked 440+ci 13.5 comp with *Di heads they are basically LSX DR heads with DI,ask me how I know..... 800hp any 1 on pump gas....., waiting for a wrecked car.)
My ? is how do some people run a 4.100 crank in LQ9's without burning oil is it the:
1) Ring package
2) Breather system
3) Piston design
4) all of the above and more

I know .100 added stroke is not worth the problem but I would like to know how some people run this set-up without burning or buying oil every other week.

There are builders I Know who do this on a avg. yearly basis, instead of calling I know some one 1 on this site has the blue-print on how this is accomplished.
Just wanting to know for Knowledge

Mostly 1 and 3, depending on how much stroke. Erik Keonig (aka Racer7088) well as others have put 4.250" cranks in sleeved standard deck blocks. Erik has been very generous with information on what the problem and fixes are when stuffing big stroke cranks in these blocks. Just search his posts and you'll find everything straight from the horse's mouth so to speak.

why should it burn more oil?. And by the way genious its only 0.050 more out of the hole on the bottom. So how more of an angle will this .050 transfer to the angle that is already there with a 4.0 stroke. Now reach for your pocket protecter like clint eastwood would a gun and go at it.
But if you got a .035 longer rod and cut the piston top down .025 what angle would that be. lol.....maybe a gasket could calm all your worries and the other stuff u mentioned.

That .050" makes a difference believe it or not. Measure the piston OD .050" above or below its major diameter and you should be able to get the picture.

Handyandy496 find out how many 416/427 LQ9 burn oil and that .050 becomes a real issue.....I think that raising the rings up and decreasing the piston dome will kill this

I run a 4.125 in an LS3 and burn no oil. Granted the sleeve is longer then an LQ, but still. I run a vac pump and ring pack set with that in mind. It's a +5cc custom wiseco piston they make for big stroke stock sleeve apps, has a different taper then their regular pistons. I can grab the part # off the piston card if you want.

Yeah Diet Coke give me the # I'm looking over the ole thread L92 head 427 makes 700hp n/a...we've came a way since this thread...as it's well known 700 hp nothing less, baby Nascar engine cheap....BTW Chevy won the NASCAR Manufacturer Championship with the J. Gordon win, does any other car maker make a OHC engine design...LOL Ford,Toyota....

Coke send me a PM with the things to really pay attention to thinking of doing another crank job, to make a 418 from a 408 only 400 bucks Extra

Here you go - I'm sure you could have them make them in whatever dome CC (or bore, since mine is 4.072) you need. You may or may not have to clearance the block extra for the stroke - I did. They made these for me after my original shelf pistons wore too much prematurely and ended up piston slapping, and they've fared MUCH better. The short block had a bunch of minor issues from TSP that we fixed during the teardown, notably make sure the wrist pins dont bind at full cant on the interior wall of the piston - TSP didn't clearance the originals and the pins wore into the pistons in a couple spots, which led to a partially broken spirolock (but not failed)... yada yada.

Oil control though, is key. Plain on either a vac pump or at least a pair of -10 lines from the valve covers to a tank or the exhaust stream. The stock ventilation capacity can't keep up with a 4.1" or larger stroke.

Thanks DC.....having fun in the H, i'm happy to be home...I'll call Sue and we can match the part number to a little smaller piston.... the 408 is getting bigger I'm not going to do a bigger ls engine(although I have a 1 off crank for another app.) the LT offers more so..... my 408 will really be project Thanos.....basically a little crazy for a street engine...
DC I called TSP about there 416/427 LQ9 and as U stated:
Oil control though, is key. Plain on either a vac pump or at least a pair of -10 lines from the valve covers to a tank or the exhaust stream. The stock ventilation capacity can't keep up with a 4.1" or larger stroke. is correct as U stated again wear on the pistons is to be watched.....
I just want 700 and then move on to a different design, by doing this as simple as possible and as cheap as poss. with Reliability...and do the same thing with the DI setup 13.5 Comp......... on pump gas lets add in stroke and Steve with RED lets sleeve it ...BTW for those out there he was the 1st guy doing Sleeves for the ls blocks....$$$$$ don't forget Proline & ERL* they will be the 1st to sleeve a LT it's going to takes some 1 with a 2014 Vette with $..Ferrari new engine has DI and 730....I'm willing to bet LT 454= 800hp and still be street able, we out do it on the track minus over 200 hp look at the front page(of LS1TECH) Corvette -VS-Ferrari,and the 911 waiting for the 4wd version still for less than 70grand, hell I'll compete with a ole LQ9 and i'm after #'s ..... 1.0 g's, 1/2 mile 11.o or less on street tires for less than the NEW la ferrari or better yet la Puusssy

mine makes a hair over 620 rwhp with a stock ls3 block through the 4l80. it's probably around 750 engine hp, not bad for what it is, really. decent heads good fuel and high compression and power is there to be made. my 251/259 cam is on the smallish side too.

TBH I wish I had a 4.1 or even 4.0 stroke crank in it instead of the .125, then I'd just spin it to 8k and let her eat.

I know who U R Coke..(same trans 4000 single stall)....my little 408 with the cam I got is good BUT add in a little more stroke & not burn oil lets take it to the LIMIT and still run A/c.... That's Y we the best....we just got to play head games .......HEADS...I love perfection and if it breaks it's not because of design but of Parts not being on par.
The 408 short block is ready *pistons Can be returned *...but I got a crank trick up my sleeve if I'm not doing another LSX..( which is on my forearm) if I can get it right with the 4.10 crank + $400.oo I'm on 427 or 416-418.....change pistons and boom add in some TQ albeit 5ftlbs I want that..Also...

This is a hobby......I can't always have it my way....Dro and a thought.....would the .100 make that much of a diff....Yes to me, love to take it to the limit or(blue-print) the engine, but if not right it's a lost and I want @ Least 50,oooo miles out of 700hp so is .100 worth it, if dailed in correctly YES piston Design= wear......50 thou, I'll change valve springs with what I got every 5 to 10 .....it's a engine that once done.... It could always drop back in no matter what...This is what is called blueprinting every # matching to get a Desired end result...And realistically expecting it to hold together

Everything checked out good and Sue said the taper will help a lot and she had some already in stock the same bore as you did .070 over and a .030 over bore....
I have nothing against TSP but Diet Coke....would you say there work speaks for itself....
I know it's a difficult build in which stuffing a 4.1 + crank but it can be done and work out if done Correctly.
Also if you read this Diet Coke how long would you say before having to do a engine rebuild or tear-down......

Man we back on a 3 state tour starting Sunday but I'll get to go to Denver to see my uncle......Don't they have legal pot there...LOL,my uncle has the Medical Mary card....

I don't know for longevity, I mean it could last 5,000 or 50,000 miles, really just depends on how hard you beat on it. If mine makes it to 25k before I tear it down I'll be surprised, but I only put 3-4k on it a year so that's ok. Yeah mine is .003 over a stock ls3, 4.072 instead of 4.069. It's got one more good .003 hone in it, but i'll probably sleeve it and go big (4.185) if I tear it down again.

As far as TSP goes, I still think they put out a good product. I did have minor (and I mean minor) issues with the short block, but that stuff happens. To be honest I should have checked over their assembly too before I ran it, but I didn't. Lesson learned. Any place that mass produces (to an extent) engines can miss minor details on nontypical builds and combinations like mine was.

They make some awesome heads/headers and have great customer service, so I'll continue to buy and promote their stuff. Their small LS7 heads are a big part of the reason my car makes the power it does
