Default Ls3 bored to 4.080 ok for boost?

I have an ls3 that's bored 4.080. I may decided to use if for boost but im not sure. Ive built plenty of ls7 boosted motors and only had one cylinder wall crack on me. I was wonder if Im safe to use this block for a boosted application or am I pushing it?

It's probably ok for moderate boost, but I would be sure to keep the tune conservative.

Depends on how uniform (or not) the liners are. I've seen pics of some LS3 blocks with extremely thick liners on one side and really thin on the other.

Once you send it to have the block done they can sonic test the bores so you will know..rule of thumb leave as much bore as possible for when you want 2 up the boost 5 cubic inches won't matter with 10-18 psi.lol..

How do you sonic test a block with sleeves and know what is the thickness of the block and what is left of the sleeve?

I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the UT mike will pick up on the change in alloys.

Wouldn't that throw off the meter with the denseness of the different materials?

Default Sonic checking sleeve thickness

You can check the thickness of the sleeve with a good ultra sonic thickness tester. The tester will distinguish between the sleeve and block. Pain to do with the ribbed outside surface of the cast in sleeve however.

I wouldn't bother. You should be fine with mild boost. You took .010" off the wall thickness of the sleeve. The LS3 is the same block casting GM uses for the LSA and LS9. The difference between the blocks is with the main caps used, ductile iron on the LSA, doweled steel on the LS9, plus the larger head fasteners, 12mm, on the LS9.

just a thing from iron blocks...aka never owned a aluminum block. I go cheap. LSX tall deck vs ERL. But Boss is right, **** up on the tune it won't matter what bore you go with.
Steve is my go 2 guy 4 anything with a sleeve..we have talked about how WJ said how GM messed off the LSX block

"LSXHawk" What are your goals and budget for your build. A 4.080" LS3 based build is not unusual for a mild boost/power.

I would like to build a 900hp motor with 16psi maxed.

"LSXHawk" as long as you stick under the 1000 Flywheel HP mark with a properly prepped assembly (core shift factored in of course) it should not give you any troubles at that size.
