Need advice on oil pressure issue (gauge vid and filter pics inside)
I was making some pulls the other day and noticed my oil pressure was acting strange. It would creep up with rpm to around 55psi, but then drop and settle around 40psi. Hot idle then dropped to 20psi. I did an oil and filter change and it started up with 26psi cold idle... :/
Engine is a built 6.0 with a melling high pressure/high volume that used to make a lot more pressure. Engine has been running well for almost 3k miles. ( https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...-too-much.html )

Some additional history - I've had issues with my clutch preloading against my throw out bearing due to too thick of stack height... Went through 2 throw out bearings about 1,000 miles each till I realized the problem (clutch didn't slip). (thrust bearing?)
As far as a bypass issue, isn't the bypass designed to stay closed using spring pressure that can overcome the oil pressure, so at low rpm and low pressure it should be totally closed? As the oil pressure increases, it's designed to open up and let oil flow through it. So at 7,000 rpm the bypass would likely be 100% open either way. Since my oil pressure is fluctuating downward at high rpm, would this rule out the bypass?
Here's the filter material... seems ok to me, but I don't know exactly what I'm looking for, so I took a ton of pics of both sides of the filter
