I'm not sure... the later IVC would seem to want more compression, but the 4" stroke changes the dynamics and most big power strokers are still relatively mild in compression when looking at the cams, etc. It's one of those things I've never fully understood, but would like to...

Oh, you're talking about DCR.

No, actual compression. Most are in the 11.5:1 range, despite having really big cams. And they still make power.

It's not $7500 for an NA under 1k wheel setup from ERL my friend. $5850 + core get you in brotha. Also, I wanted an aluminum block build. Having a Vette, staying light was important to me. Also, I am not a motor builder, and I understand that time is my biggest asset, so having someone else build it was a much better deal for me. I know that's not the same for everyone, but I do know family men with careers (such as myself and Jake in this case) time gets sucked up like a far kid eating cake! So, I let the experts build it, as it's their perfession and what they do day in and day out.

You ever notice how when some people say "not be a" or "with all due respect" they think it gives them the opprotuinty to state whatever they feel without recourse? Also knowing that's exactly what they're trying to be!

Any how, I'm currently at 580 wheel NA and 700 on a 100 shot. There's a few more additions that have to be made, like a fast 102 and tighter headers as 2" headers are just too much for an NA motor. It runs like a scolded dog and can be beat on until the cows come home.

Jake, my apologies if this mucked up your thread buddy. Personally, now having both cathedral ports and rectangular ports, I can tell you the endless power band of the rectangular port is straight intoxicating! They never seem to run out of air!

I'd leave the 2" headers on that thing.

Btw, I can't seem to find shelf pistons for the 4.07" bore that give me what I want from Wiseco or Diamond and spending the extra for custom is not exactly in line with my overall goals... So 402 it looks like or maybe a 408 if I can stomach the iron block weight. The good thing from the 408 is I reuse my ARP head bolts, Rollmaster timing set, and my new LS6 valley cover I installed. Those things, individually, are not that expensive, but when you buy multiple parts over and over again... well it gets stupid.

Given the 226cc ports and 2.04" valve (think I'll just keep those so I can add more duration/overlap) the flat tops with the chambers opened to 66cc will net me around 12.1:1 CR with .035" quench. An EPS 248/254 113+3 would work well in that setup and make power everywhere given the smaller ports and valve size relative to the bore.

If you are going to run 12.1:1 compression I would run as good a cold air intake as you can buy. Also look into a big radiator and fan(s) that will keep the temperatures down. If things get on the warm side the ECM will pull timing and defeat your gains.

Running a BeCool 2.5" thick dual core radiator. And I have the Ram Air opened up on the hood. So, I should be okay there.

I know when I say it, I mean that I'm not trying to be even though I realize it may read that way over plain text, where other factors such as tone, can't be conveyed. If I want to be a dick, I will be blatantly and unapologetically.

In that case, I appreciate it KCS. BTW, do you work for a performance shop in Houston? KP or 510?

Jake, to give you a good barometer for this build if you do it, I'm going to get my buddy who has a LS2 based 414 to chime in. He's running stage 3 ported TEA 243's a 247/255 cam on LSL lobes and 1.8 Harland sharpe rockers and has had great results. 560 wheel and over 530 ft/lbs. It's a torque monster!

Yeah I guess I'm not following. To me, 11.5:1 compression and big cams don't really conflict for power. Larger cams need the longer durations and the static compression looks good for pump gas. I thought you were saying the DCR seemed too low to make good power.

Yeah, I was at 510 for a year, but left there in August.

Oh yeah, that super clean red one. I can't take credit for that, I think I had just left, but I do remember his car. All I did was set them up with a fixture to drill the hole for the dipstick tube.

So we are talkin $5800 + tax & $250- 800 for a good used core we still @ $6200- 6300 that is alot @ 1 time as I don't do credit only cash... no intrest on my own $
Now I will be spending on build & dyno time... LME = Total is right around 9 grand close to 10 complete. 427 you have a great set- up but, not 4 a Baller on a Budget.

also 510 is damn good... a guy whos home we were doing friend in League City, had a E85 Black 427 ZO6 with H/C/I work done... Beast.

Jake try calling JE about there new piston all will be from 7 to 9 hundred bucks... trying to get a restock now myself on pistons. I will lose some coin but I like new better products as with my Vic Jr intake now another $475.oo for the Super Vic LS3 EFI intake. Cheap HP. But @ some cost.

I like the Wiseco reverse dome pistons... they have an 8cc for the 4.005" and 4.030" so I could actually leave the heads alone at 62cc and have like 11.8:1 CR, which would be nice.

got 2 go but.... I sent pistons back... To get the upper edge = more HP.
I did a post on the new JE piston look it up. My pistons from JE will cost 895 but I lost some on the restock fee from Wiseco... I could send them back because It was not a custom piston.
