Default Options for 4.185 bore, short stroke engine.

Looking for best option for a 4.185 bore block. stroke of the motor will be 3.185, i have crank/pistons/ roads are being made. Just looking to see what would be best option. Engine will stay all motor. Going into a light weight tube chassis car with a big tire.

Aluminum LSNext block would probably be your best bet.

ERL sleeved, RED sleeved in aluminum, or LSX Iron probably $1500 less if you
don't mind the 140 lb weight penalty. I am doing a similar build
With a stock (3.625) stroke. Share the rest of your build if you dont
Mind.

Build can be seen here. not very much progress this far.

Aluminum ls next is what i was thinking but the price tag is a little nutty. Seems the LSX block gets some mixed reviews also. Iron ls next is definately a thought right now.

Also havent seen much for pricing on the ERL blocks. ones i have seen were alot

how bout a lowly 5.3 aluminum or LS6 block, have Darton sleeve it MID or dry sleeve.
light, and half the cost of aftermarket.
if you are going to spin this to 9K there would be some oiling issues to overcome though

also if you go right to 4.185 you won't have much left for service/rebuild, something to consider. 4.155 might be better start

I have pistkns already for a 4.185 bore. Reason im wanting that bore.

On the oiling i would really like to go dry sump with the engine. Seems it would be a better setup for my intended purpose.

what do the mid sleeve blocks go for? Ive seen a few done on forums and such but whats the cost involved?

Its about $2200 to get your block back with the sleeves and ARP hardware, fully machined. You still have to provide a suitable block, which can be $300 for an aluminum 5.3L block to $1500 for a brand new LS3 block.

If revving it high is a goal I say priority main front and rear is the way, all are aftermarket. List expensive been the LSX cast iron block and perhaps the must steady platform for a lasting build.

There's lots to be done to reduce the extra weight in other areas.

Pretty much leaning towards the iron dart next block at this time. I like the unskirted mains. The car will be so light the iron block should not be an issue. Seems to be the best direction for me to go at this time.
