frigin valve lash..Ans shims?
Ok guys. I have been pulling my hair out trying to figure out why I was loosing compression on my right bank. I had good compression on no1 cyl not so good on no 3 and none on 5 and 7. Turns out it was the valves staying open. Seems that just a few thousands of an inch can blow all your compression right back up and out the valves. I had 0 compression on cyl 5. Grabbed an allen wrench and backed the rocker screws out 1/4 of a turn(.014 apr) and WHALA 200 psi. Gremlins destroyed! I'm running Morals a .036 head gasket and gmpp ported ls3 head uncut with 7.4 pushrods. Wipe pattern seemed fair but a little more to the outside. Checked for preload and guess what about a half turn too much(apr .025). And I thought hydraulics made up for sins....NOT. So I'm going to make a set of shims for under the rocker stands for both sides.
My questions...Are there any other reasons why this should occur other than the gasket thickness being less?
Does anybody see anything wrong with shimming the 0.25 ?
Wouldn't it be wise on any Ls engine to shim the stands the same as the reduction of the head gasket thickness plus anything that's cut off the head?
