Default Ls7 cam selection

i've literally lurked this site for years because you can literally find everything by searching for it. great source of knowledge in one place. but here's where i am.

i took the ls1 turbo out of my 1994 rx7 for a ls7. i wanted the ls7 so i could have close to stock ls1 turbo power with out dealing with turbo issues. i would like to see 540 whp out of it. I have the bolt on's to go with it. Just having a hard time finding a cam to do what i want.

don't want a huge nasty cam that shakes a lot and kills drive-ability. i also don't want a ton of torque. my little 2700lb car doesn't need 500lbs of tq from idle.

is there a cam out there that will pull smooth from the bottom to 7k with out killing how the car drives? i don't want to harass other speed shops because i won't buy from them. have a friend with a shop, but sadly has no clue on this stuff. but i want to support his place. thanks!!!

I've seen cams with pretty big splits (intake to exhaust duration difference) work reallly well for the LS7 stuff. 23x/25x @ .050" made in the neighborhood of 600whp but with ported LS7 heads and pretty much every bolt on available.

yeah, i've seen some of that too. i don't need that much. if i did i would of just built the ls1 and dealt with the turbo.

oh yeah, the car lives on e85 also. i don't think that really matters much though.

The Katech torquer 116 will do what you're looking to do. It'll put down 550whp w/ ported LS7 heads, peak around 6400, and pull to 7k. It was the previous cam I ran in my C6Z. Driveability is dang near stock, and it's a great cam. I switched it out for a 235/251 on a 114 cam, added static compression to my ported heads and added a Fast which took my power from 554/477 to 583/526. Driveability is still very good, and it pulls like a banshee above 5k to 7k+. Both great cams, just depends on how much power you want. Driveability is great with either, neither really shake the car, I will say though the idle w/ my current cam is flat out awesome.

Truthfully, great. Gas mileage for either is about the same, 25-26 on the highway. I make a few trips each year to Dallas now in it which is about 200 miles, and it runs it like a champ. Either cam can be lugged down in 6th.

thanks for the input! i actually watched that video this morning. i have done a lot of looking this past week, but a lot of grind info isn't available for places. all you can really do is just search names of cams and hope that the person posting about them feels the same way you do about drive-ability
.

Yep. A lot of it depends on the tuning, but I will say both of these cams are highly tuneable and forgiving.

It sounds like you'd be after the Katech torquer 116. Also, as retarded as that forum is, check out CorvetteForum. You can find good respectable info, you just have to wade through a bunch of cry babies and bull ****.
