I know it isn't a sealant because these bolts are going into a blind hole. Is it is a lubricant? A thread locker? A thread locking lubricant?
My concern lies in the fact that I just popped open the boxes these came in from GM and the orange goop is packed full of what looks like dirt/debris from getting kicked around on the floor of the plant. They are all like this.
Now I have nothing against using these bolts, I would just like to know the purpose of the goo; and if I was to remove it could I use a moly-lube (like ARP's) instead? Because this crap cannot yield a consistent initial torque spec rating.
Torque doesn't matter with those TTY bolts since they torque to an angle, but I would certainly try to clean them off. Another lubricant, like the ARP stuff would work just fine.
