Seems about right for a cam that's WAY smaller than what I had in my Stock bottom end ls1.

I have to agree that the cam is holding that setup back.

How does it drive around town? How does the power feel in your style of driving?

Does it meet the original specification?

So your dissapointed in the dyno number......hmmm

Did you talk with Tony about this? Just curious what he said and if he gave you any kind of idea where he thought the car would be when he spec'd out the cam for you.

Two things. Like stated above the small cam and a Mustang dyno. I have a 238/244 Cam Motion camshaft in my LS3 based 427 and it idles at 800 rpm and drives just fine. Very good street manners. I also have 11.3:1 compression and runs on 91 octane here in California. I think those are good numbers for the camshaft and the Mustang dyno.

That cam is small for a stock displacement LS engine when he's squishing 11.8:1 compression.

Not at all a proper cam choice if looking for 550+ HP at the wheels....

Agreed. I run an equal cam in the 6.2 LS3 in my '95 Impala.

If you wanted to chase numbers, then you shouldn't have specified that you wanted stock driving manners.

Put the thing on a Dynojet and see what it puts down. I bet it puts down "more."

Although the cam is questionable for optimum performance, 510/505 on a Mustang Dyno
should net 560-575rwhp on a typical DynoJet. With a past combo I've done back to back pulls from MD to Dynojet in the same town and gained 13.5% on a Dynojet.

Lots of variables with dyno numbers so track times would tell the true tale

Cam is too small if you're wanting more power. Good numbers for the size of the cam and being on a Mustang Dyno. If the load cell is properly calibrated, most MD's are in my experience 6-8% lower than a Dyno Jet.

Load cell calibration is a big variable though when it comes to comparing DJ numbers to a MD. It's nearly impossible to compare the two even when that variable is known as no two machines will usually read the same.

I agree about the small cam, however, the 2" headers aren't doing you any favors either.

True....not with that small of a cam, anyway....

But still, I'd bet a dollar that his engine is a high-sight smoother that the 429 LS3 in my SS. All things considered, if a strong, smooth setup is what he wanted.....then I'd bet that he's achieved that goal.

I agree.

My car now has a 239/247 low lash solid roller in a stock bottom end ls2 and it's 100% daily driveable and I'm a poor tuner. Before that I had a 230/238 cam in both a stock bottom end LS1 then the LS2 and it was also tame as can be as far as driving.

I wanted a baby cam, but with my supporting mods barely scratching 500 seems like a joke

It has been proven back to back on a dyno that 2inch headers have same hp and tq down low than 1 7/8 but they have more power up top, on stock internal LS3 Camaro. Dont know if its a good idea to go smaller. He wont gain any hp, which is what is after.

Cam is too small. Its medium/small for a stock LS3...

I laughed at that too. How many posts does a guy need to see saying "the cam is holding it back if you want more power"

a low lash solid in the upper 230's/240's range would of given you the donkey sausage WITH street manners...might want to talk to Kip @ Cam Motion
