Default What is this on my drain plug?

I am thinking camshaft dowel pin, but want to see what you guys say...

Been 12k on the camshaft, no issues. No odd noises. If it is the dowel pin, should I be concerned?

I also swapped to Johnson 2116 linkbar lifters about 6 months ago. Do they have dowel pins like that?

Definitely the cam dowel. Now the great debate...do I check for loose cam bolts or not...

The motor is quiet.

The dowel only aligns the cam and sprocket. Yours doesnt look shered off, but they are near impossible to remove. How the hell did this fall out. What brand cam?

That being said, may want to check it out Are you positive this is the cam dowel?

I cant think of anything else it could be. It cant be from a lifter since they are caged in. I do long oil changes so its likely been this way a while. What is odd is there are zero marks on it.

Ill probably tear it down its pretty easy to get to the cam on a g8.

Apparently if the bolts were loose a camshaft position sensor code gets thrown. I may just keep driving it and keep an eye out for this code then.

Decided not to tear it down, the car sounds too perfect for anything to be wrong. Will update thread if it goes LOL.
