Default Brian Tooley Racing Stage 1 Truck Cam

I'm thinking about doing a DOD delete on an 07 5.3(LH6) SWB trailblazer. I was recomended this cam by an LSX shop. Has anyone used this cam? what was your experience? Fuel milage, power, etc.

That cam ought to have a nice broad torque curve.

But as stated already.....call BTR to get answers the questions you have.

Should run great and work just fine with the stock converter.

It's extremely similar to the Cam Motion drop in cam I run in mine. In which case you should expect a bump of 30-40rwhp (with a tune) and drive like stock. Fuel mileage will be pretty much unchanged from stock.

My thread about the Cam Motion cam is in the dyno section of this site if you want to see all the details.

Dont use the stage 1 a lot, most guys go straight for the stage 2.

Its a great cam. Works perfect with a stock converter. pick you up about 30-35 rw depending on any additional mods. I have had gains of 3 mpg reported back to me. but I take those with a grain of salt.

My truck was negligible on MPG as far as loses or gains. It might have picked up between half and 1 mpg in situations where before the engine would have been lugging a little more to hold speed up hills and what not.

My truck does get between 19-21mpg highway pretty regular though. Mixed driving is 16-17 and all in town is ~15

Skip the stage 1, and go with the stage 2 at a minimum. I've done probably 10-15 of the tooley truck cams, and they work great!

Im researching these cams myself now...

why recommend skipping stage 1? Im not looking for power, or mid gains, I really want low/mid gains, where it would be used towing... coming off a stop or starting up a grade (so 2000-3000rpm)..

According to the BTR page, the Sg1 is the right choice here, and go to a Stg2 to start sacrificing low end for mid.... (I take mid as ~4500 ish)

My Cam Motion 205/210 felt to have picked up from idle up slightly, it really comes alive above 1800-2000rpm and ramps up more from there. I set it to shift at 6,000rpm if you bury your foot and ramp the shifts down from there based on throttle position. Typically even under heavy acceleration I can let it shift up around 4500-5000 if I don't feel the need to ring it out.

Works great for me.

I'd look at Texas Speed's 212/218 cam on a 112lsa. Their dyno on a stock 5.3 was more than impressive even down low. It's the same can I plan on running in a 5.3 swap project that I'm planning to do.
