LY5, LS1 interchangeable?

Default LY5, LS1 interchangeable?

Is anything off of a 99 ls1 (intake, cam, accesories, heads) interchangeable with a LY5? did some searching and didnt find much results? i know its a 4th gen block but i want to know what ill have to do to make the swap as least painful as possible. thanks

Everything you mentioned is interchangeable, but you might have to drill/tap the block for the F-body alternator bracket. The iron blocks weren't drilled there from the factory, but the material is the same.

This^^^

I had to drill/tap my iron 6.0 to fit my alternator bracket and I'll be able to let you know Sunday if you'll have to for a 5.3, but I'm guessing you do.

cool! thats really the least of my worries.... will all 3rd gen heads work too? id like to keep the compression in the 9's, i believe theyre 9.4 stock, what head will keep me there?

Yeah, both my 6.0 and my 5.3 were gen 4 blocks.

if it had afm/dod, do i just get normal lifters to replace the factory ones and everything else will swap easily? will it take ls1 cam etc?

I’m getting ready to swap a gen 4 5.3 into my 2001 camaro, was wondering how the swap went for you and if you had any problems or specifics you come across. Also wondering what you did for knock sensors and valley cover. Thank you
