Usually true, but the Dorman manifolds seem to work, and fairly well by reports on these forums.

I have a new set Brian Tooley Racing roller trunions and one had a hell of a flat spot right out of the box. They were nice enough to just send me another one but after close inspection, several of them are ****. They seem to be almost exactly like the comp kits I've installed. They say made in the USA on them. I guess there are **** products made everywhere. I decided not to install them on my motor at all and ordered the Straub kit. We'll see how they handle the riggers of the drag strip.

I offered to send BTR a few good machine shops that could manufacture the trunions out of good material with the proper finish, but I never heard back. I guess they like selling junk.

If they would spend a few more bucks and use an inner race, this problem would be non-existent. They would probably have to charge an extra $20, but they would last 120k miles instead of 12k and you wouldn't be replacing them again.

I use Jesel or TD machine adjustable rockers and never a problem only get what you pay for .
Those name brand are fully rebuild able as well TD only charge the price of the parts replaced and rebuild them themselves.

I got her fired back up this weekend with the Straub bushings and it's great so far. Top end is definitely quieter with less sewing machine noise. Install was super easy and everything fit and felt great.

So happy people have been making these threads over the past year, as it motivated me to check mine after 5k on them. Needless to say, I had the same problems and mine were BTR (no hate, I like BTR a lot!).
I switched to Straub 15k miles ago and haven't heard any odd noises, but admittedly haven't had the valve covers off to really check. My cammed g8 is a true daily driver and my only car. It's also probably the first car I ever modded that was truly set and forget. You get what you pay for.

Now officially nervous. I'm reading this literally 500 miles after doing a Summit trunion install. Engine is a bone stock LS3 though, so hopefully that will be a saving grace...

I don't understand why these aren't hyped more here. These are the ones I bought. You don't need a press to install them, just a pair of snap ring pliers, the bushings rotate in the bore for even wear, the bushing material used has been used in their trunions since 2006 and valve guides for 30 years so it's pretty well proven and you are supporting a LS1Tech Sponsor. I'm not saying the Straub kit is a bad product but I think the CHE kit is better. Yes I know they are priced higher but sometimes better costs more.

Did your engine fail because of the damage in the photos or did you just take them out to inspect? I have some on mine about 3 years old and I want to check now

No, no damage that I know of but there was some visible meta around the rocker pedestals so I'm glad I removed them when I did.
