Default Question of All Pro LSW 12-1 LS7 285cc heads and matched cam?

My buddy is getting into drag racing and just picked up a Dragster, I cant remember which class it is but it needs an engine. Everything else seems to be there including ignition and harness.

We found a used Top End kit that someone is selling and I had a few questions before we go look at everything. The guy sent over the specs on everything and is listed below. Everything was designed to work together, intake was port matched to the heads and so on. He says everything was Spec'd out and ran by Justin Smith, honestly no idea who he is.

-The heads are All Pro LSW 12-1 "LS7 Style" 285cc Intake Ports/105cc Exhaust Ports, 65cc chamber volume, 2.200" Titanium Intake valves, 1.600" Stainless Lightweight Exhaust Valves, PAC 1335 .800" lift dual springs with matching PAC R532 Ti-17 Titanium Retainers, as well as another full set of (unknown brand) dual springs good up to 1" lift, 8mm Bronze guides, Copper Seats.
-The cam is a Comp Cams grind, 277/292 .748"/.756" 117 LSA
-Intake is a LSW-12-1 “Hurricane Manifold” for 4500 Dominator flange.

His plan was to use a RHS 9.750" Tall Deck Block with a 4.125" Bore/4.250" Stroke or something around there for a 7.4L 454. This is not set in stone and is still talking to engine builders. He just found this add for this topend and wanted me to ask the professionals before going to look at. I like to think I know a lot about LS engine and what not, but this is a different category for me.

Supposedly the Heads/Cam/Intake only has a few passes on them. They were used on a 436 with a 300-400 shot. He wants $4,500 for everything. He says he has Lifters and Pushrods (Unknown Brand at this time), Jessel Shaft mounted rockers, and a Holley 4500 1,050 cfm Dominator Carb that he can setup for whatever fuel we intend to use. The extra stuff is an additional $3,500 but will sell with the combo for $7,000.

Now would this be a good setup for a 454 and is this a decent price for everything.

We are also wondering if it would be better to just by a crate motor rather than piecing together everything. The GM Performance LSX454R with 776-Hp at 7,000 / 649-Tq at 5,100, with a 250/270 .738"/.738" Cam, that we can pick up for $15k doesn't seem to bad. It may even end up being cheaper. I was also just told the LSX454R crate motor has better flowing heads then the ones listed above, and can have more porting done on them.

Sounds like a good deal if ever-things on point that cam would be nice for that engine size .250 stroke would eat a lot of that cam up so 7800 to 8k would be your max as the 117 lsa would like it more on the top end(test cam as it's for Nos). Just a ball park figure. Should make near 900 or 900 with being properly set up. 13+ Compression and 900 is just a number.

I may just let him know to either buy a complete crate motor or have an engine built by a local builder. Might end up being cheaper and more logical than to piece together something. I know nothing about building a 8,000 RPM 418+ CI N/A engine.

That could be an option as well.

GNX has used WCCH heads. Here's something old and similar, you'd have a better top end.

Where are you seeing the LSX DR454 for 15K?

They had that late last year with like a 2500.00 mail rebate.
