Default what crank wheel do i have 24x or 58x

i have a 2007 sierra 1500 with a 5.3 DOD motor.

i believe 2007 is a transition year where i could have both the 24x ring or 58x

is there any way i could tell what crank wheel i have without pulling the timing cover ?

If you have DOD, you have a 58x reluctor wheel. The 24x computer won't operate DOD.

You can look at the color of your crank sensor. Black is 24 tooth, grey is 58x.

Also,
It's my understanding that all engines switched to 58x at the start of 2006.

2006 GTOs were 24 as well as various SUVs and trucks.

LPE has a list published.

As said, ANY engine that is DOD WILL be 58x. Anything 24x can't support DOD.

Crank sensor is the best bet. Also front cam sensor.

Not true.
I have a 2006 9-7x that I did a rebuild & a DOD delete. Needed a crank. Was def 24x.
I also have a 2007 that needed same & is 58x.

Was the DOD working before the crank swap? IF it was a 24x, the computer would not have been capable of handling the DOD. The 58x computer is far more sophisticated than the 24x one.
2006 Saab 9-7x's had LH6 5.3L engines w/ DOD/AFM, and were 58x. The ONLY way yours could have been 24x is if someone previously put a 24x crank in it AND corresponding computer. Something was goofy about that setup if it was as stated.

Don't know where you got that information, but I can promise you it is wrong. AFM went live in the GMT360 in 2006 with the E40 ecm. My truck had working AFM, never had anything but oil changes (26k), E40 ecm and a 24x reluctor. After reinstalling the motor with the dod deleted, I had to nurse it on 4 cylinders to a friend with HP Tuners to tune out the AFM.

I also know of a 2006 Envoy Denali with working AFM with an E40 ECM & black sensors.

I did hear that some of the 2005's got AFM hardware, but it was not activated. No personal experience with that.

Well, that's a new one on me! EVERYTHING I had seen and read indicated that DOD/AFM was only possible with the 58x wheel/computer combo. I apologize if I came off a bit know-it-all-ish.

Not at all, just trying to keep the info straight. Definitely an orphan motor, one year only. I wish they gave the 58x motor a different designation to avoid confusion.

Quick Reply: what crank wheel do i have 24x or 58x
