And a pic with my Mamo ported and smoothed MSD Atomic intake setting in place.

Thanks Darth! It seems fast to you guys, but I’ve been putting this together since January, which I guess isn’t bad considering all of the shipping in/shipping out parts, and waiting on venders to get me products...plus machine shop timeframes. Hope to have it in the car this week...maybe.
I’m still awaiting delivery of my new front accessory drive kit, and Damon at Mast is building me a startup tune. More to come!!!

Great build, should run well. In for results!

Couple of questions,
- did you mic those Isky lifter bodies? How consistent were their sizes?
- did you file your rings with a torque plate installed? Just curious if you factored that in. You may need to throw some more rings into the trash can!

So I stack my gauges, and I know what feel I must have...that’s the easy part. The struggle with this is the hours and hours that it takes to get it this precise. I’ve seen engine builders file a set of rings in 30 minutes, and say “close enough”. I don’t exactly do things that way...took me two evenings to file mine...almost 8 hours.

I did in fact mic the lifter bodies and they measured in spec, but I didn’t check in multiple locations on the same lifter. Have you seen issues with the Isky’s lifter body runout personally?
I don’t use torque plates to file rings, instead I measure the gap with the ring squared in the cylinder half way down or so. A torque plate really only distorts the upper third of the cylinder. I’ve actually never seen or heard of a builder using a torque plate to cut rings. Is this something new?

Thanks for the questions!

Why do you question OPs choice of rocker arms?

I had the same question. I know there were some posts awhile back about some issues with YT rockers, but these are supposed to be a unique part for Tony's builds. Don't remember all the specifics, but Tony assured me they were ok. Hope so because I have the same ones...

You go the 10-mm upgraded ones? I run those. I know 2.5 years is only 2.5 years, but so far so good, running solids with .650 lift

YT got off to a rough start. Yes their gen1 rockers were a mess...no argument. They revised them with a gen2, and those were much stronger, but still need a small refinement. The gen3’s are a redesigned rocker, and to my knowledge are lasting as long as any other aluminum bodied rocker on the market. Now...I might break one during first drive, parts fail. Especially race parts. Tony puts his name on these units specifically to handle what he designs his top ends to do. He had YT design these for his heads. They are not an off the shelf setup, and won’t work on most ls7 heads.

Can you explain this a little more?

Are these pillars for a DOD engine? I never noticed them on my block after seeing this. I of course bought the wrong valley cover so I'll have to buy new/different parts or do what you've done.

Did you have to drill these out and then tap them or simply tap them? What is the set screw size+pitch?

Looks like a great solution.

Thanks!

On my LS3 block we just tap 1/4" ntp and used plugs .

If you buy the right valley cover there’s no need for doing that.

Almost as cheap as the gasket was...

Killer build so far - that cam sounds mean.

Looking forward to a video to hear it.

What is the exhaust setup for this car? Who is tuning it?

He did want to take the risk of it possibly leaking. It was mentioned earlier.

Yes, dod stand pipes, found on gen4 engines. Not all of them are drilled however, such as the ls7 block. The stands are there, just doesn’t have the holes drilled in them. If you have a gen3 block, you do not have these.
As mentioned, it’s a 1/4” plug. The block I’m using for this particular build is an ex-nascar Whelen block, and it already had these tapped. I simply installed some plugs at final assembly.
The valley cover has o-rings that fit the stands perfectly, to seal them off when used in a non-dod application. The tap and plug method used in this build is overkill, but also ensures me that in case of an o-ring failure, that I’m not gonna wipe out bearings due to a terrible internal oil leak. O-rings can, and will fail...

Headers are 2” primary into 3” merge collector ARH units. Exhaust will be 3” into an x-pipe, Borla pro series mufflers dumped in front of the axle. No cats needed here in north ga. Damon at Mast Motorsports will be remotely tuning, and he is flowing my injectors and building a startup tune as we speak. Engine is in the car, and I should have startup this week. Thanks for the props!
