Today was the day! Vengeance Racing...
The bad: woke up to the sound of pouring rain...sounds like the first lyric of an old song. Yep, it’s raining here today, and I’m OCD about cleanliness. The car is absolute show quality of course, and is/was a never-to-be-driven-in-the-rain type of deal. I’ve been trying to get a date with this tuner for quite a while now, so what do I do? He’s opening shop today (Saturday) just for me...oh well, it’s got wipers on the windshield, and it will wash. Let’s go! A 40ish minute drive in absolute pouring rain. Yay.
The good: we were able to get the majority of the work done on the dyno. I will get back over there maybe end of week, for street tuning, and tweaking. Overall I’m extremely pleased. Driveability is a lot better already, and will improve more as we street tune. Nothing broke! I had about 5 miles on the re-do, prior to leaving for the dyno this morning at 5am. Drove it just enough to seat the rings was all. Plugs look good. Oil looks good, with no fuel smell. Success!
How about some numbers...car made 616hp. This is a conversion vehicle. In a C6 chassis, that’s gonna be another 20+ easily, due to a much more refined and efficient driveline. Torque is 526.3, and a VERY flat curve. These numbers will go up a little as street tuning gets optimized. Mike was pretty amazed that I made this much with a plastic manifold. I would have been happy with 620, and it may get there still. Car is extremely strong. I’m gonna do some half mile runs, so there will be data available to compare to. Camshaft is actually pretty small (half pregnant) for a 434” build, and equates to a 246 degree hydraulic camshaft. I could go much bigger camshaft, and chase numbers, but it’s streetable and I’m happy.
I installed an improved oil cooler setup setup during the re-do. I went with their MHX-520 cooler, with -10 lines. I also installed their EGM-112 oil cooler thermostat, to ensure the oil gets up to temp (180 degrees), before the cooler sees oil circulation. It works great, and my oil temp gauge showed a tick over 180 the entire trip today.

Congrats. Any way to get the graph with HP/TQ #s (and RPMs ) listed ? I hate when people just show numbers without the X and Y axis or MPH instead of RPM. LOL.
thanks,
Jim

Thanks boss! You know, if I were chasing numbers, Id already be looking to see what and where I could spend another $5-$10k to get me there, but Im not. Not saying I wont upgrade stuff from time to time, but overall Im pleased. Its a cool old car thats a little older than I am, and thats what I like best about the project. Im having a blast!

Bryan Ive been wondering how yours was coming along this summer. Get a dyno day scheduled, and get some numbers up. How does it drive/feel overall with the setup you have? Its got to be a screamer up top...

Scott,
Thank you Sir. 370 lb/ft@ 3K and 400 lb/ft @ 3200RPM. This thing comes on strong.

During the short drives I've taken, it feels great, but I haven't gotten on it hard at all yet. I've been bedding brakes and working on idle/part throttle tuning.
Slowly moving forward, snails pace though.
I'm curious on your dyno runs, did you intentionally stop at 6800? I'd be really curious to see if yours continues to pull like mine does. I'm amazed how flat the curve was up into the mid-7000s on mine. I won't regularly spin it there I don't think, but it's amazing how it held on during the dyno pulls!
Congrats on this progress! And I'm sympathetic to the rain... I've been caught a few times. Mine isn't a show car per se, but it's not a lot of fun to drive in the rain with these old things! Big tires, lots of power, mediocre windshield wipers...

Nice numbers! I've been following your build because it is so close to mine. I was hoping for something over 600 rwhp and it looks like from your pull, I might get there.
I'm still a few weeks out for a chassis dyno. Need to get an exhaust installed first. Good job/attention to details...
What mufflers are your running?

I'm pretty confident that I will pick up power on the street tune. My wideband sensor was acting up, so we were hesitant to push the envelope. Its a pretty mild tune right now. Ill keep you guys posted.

Long story, but I had a setback on the suspension update that caused me to pull things back apart. I did most of this over the 4th, and it's all back together now except for the exhaust. I am looking for a local shop to do the modifications I need (had to move the engine back a bit), as my normal fab guy is too swamped. I hope to get that done in 2 weeks, I'm traveling all week this week. Just one thing after another.
