Default How do you know what bock you have

Ok so I'm confused. 1996-2007 used gen 3 ls blocks and 2005-now used gen iv. The internet confused me. We're talking about the lq4 lq9 blocks. I'm trying to figure out if I have a gen 3 or 4 unless there is another way!?!?

Knock sensors will tell you gen 3 (in the valley) or gen 4 (on the sides)

Any gas engine 3/4 or 1-ton truck after 2006, or any LS2.

Are the gen 4 iron blocks or isn't that when they moved to the all aluminum? If I could make the 8.1 out of the 2002 hd work with the custom fab turbo headers. I would just switch to that because I already have a long block 8.1 lol

No. They don't really share anything that will work and 8.1L stuff is expensive...

Not all ls2's are completely gen 4 either. 05 has 24x crank so that can mess you up with computer.

Gen 3 computer work with a 24x reluctor on the crank, gen 4 have a 58x reluctor. If you get a complete drop out with harness and computer your good. But you can't take a regular gen 4 computer and run the 05 ls2 easily. Haven't had to do it but I think the O5 vette was e38 computer so you might be able to re-write the entire tune for either or operating system.

An LS2 engine is still Gen 4 architecture. The reluctor does not Make it a gen 3 or 4 engine the architecture of the block does.

The LS2 with a 24X reluctor used an E40 PCM which was only like 2 years on some vehicles and 1 on others.

The 05 vette was an E40 PCM
from 2006-2013 they switched to an E38 with the exception of the ZR1 Vette from 2010-2013 which used the E67.
The vette then started using the E92 in 2014
