I wouldn't exactly call it a "waste"...

I got Lance's coils installed over the weekend. It took a while, because after I got them, I realized I needed new wires, and then there was some back and forth on my part. I finally ended up using rope and calling firecore and saying the rope is 8.5" long. Anyway, first start and it was a really big scare, because the car wouldn't run without pedal. But driver side headers all hot, pass side headers all cold, rechecked and I had never hooked up the pass side coil pack connector.
First impression -- definitely strengthened up the idle. I actually dropped idle RPM 100 from 925 to 850 to 825. Playing around on scanner, I got it to idle at 650 in the garage, but I don't know if I like that for DD, because map was up around 85 KPA. 750 would run decent I think. But I needeto be able to return to idle, etc, so I'm working it down slowly. 850 definitely does great though.
And I did see a difference in my WB. It read a bit richer. I"m guessing this is improved combustion. So, I'm going to have to log and see what I see. Was not able to take it out for a hard run yet. It'll be hard to tell I think how it compares up top. Driving around this morning, though, It felt like less cam surge for sure. I'm tempted to try de-tuning the adaptive spark a bit, which would take some of the lumpiness out. Possibly get this thing to run 15-20 mph in third gear just off idle. Wouldn't THAT be something?

That would be with the stock mount. These are not. Stock wires were 2 inches too short. Thats what SHE said. Giggedy

This is good info on the coils. I’m gonna go with them when I get mine back together. Thanks buddy!

IGN-1A Coil Dwell Settings
Hi All, again some kind words, thanks.
I should add, yes OPEN the SPG to .062"
I should add, the coil dwell table was not changed as of yet ?
The IGN-1A coil is rated by Mercury Racing to output 102mj with a dwell time of 2.02ms.
The GM PCM has a common setting of 4.0ms dwell for OEM coil setting.
The IGN-1A coil dwell can be set to a MAX of 8.8ms/14 volts/80% duty cycle.
A common setting for the LS PCM is in the 6 - 6.5 ms range.
THUS your report is about performance gains when the coil dwell is set to 1/2 power !
NOW TO ADD, common reports at correct dwell times requires 2*- 3* LESS Spark Advance OVER 4500 RPM at WOT.

Thanks for sharing Darth! When I changed from the stockers to Lances .580 coils on my bolt-on car I noticed the same things. Idle was better and throttle response was slightly improved. I didn't have HPT or any data to back it up but I could hear and feel it. I'm happy it wasn't all just in my head lol

I just dropped them in plug and play. A little more complicated because it needed longer wires. And the AC box required a little finagling. I made no tune changes, but as you see Lancecrecommends some. I am very interested in the way power and torque respond to dwell and timing. I will likely pull 3 degrees out when I increase dwell.

Even if I dyno today (can not cause traveling) I would not have the before numbers.
