Went ahead and ordered the pistons today. Went with the JE Asymmetrical FSR Domes again. Hopefully it will only take a few weeks for them to make.

Anyone have any experience with K1 cranks?

Also thoughts on coated bearings?

Dragonslayer crank was used in a lot of killer builds with success, maybe thats your solution.

To add re the oiling issue I run an 07 OEM VVT oil pump which produces 90psi at wot. Set up is a sbe 6.2L with stock 4th gen oil pan, no bypass valve, 6quarts 0w30 with a splash of zddp and internals look like new. I just checked a bearing last night, looks like new and this thing has been beat on for years and years. I have gone over 8K RPM more than I wish too ( no limiter )

A lot of controversy with the German Castrol but im a believer especially with no special racey parts. Maybe some of this will help. Good luck with rebuild

I run a K1 4" crank. Nice piece, I'd recommend it. I spin my to 7500 regularly without issue.

Ive played with coated and non-coated bearings and haven't noticed any real benefit in bearing life. It seems if you can maintain good oil pressure you don't need them, and if you cant the coating gets wiped out the second you have a problem. Just my experience, im sure some people swear by them.

An 8000 rpm motor is a serious race machine. The difference between 75000 and 8000 is huge in the wear on parts.
If you call a good engine builder and ask for a price on a motor, the first thing they will ask is how much HP are you looking for, and what RPM do you want to run.
That is because rpm = $$. Yes there is big HP at high rpm, but at a HUGE cost. You are way in the "Experimental Zone" with that kind of rpm, you can expect a lot of broken parts.

Bearing problems; What was your oil temperature when you made this dyno run that wiped out the bearings. Anything less than 180 degrees is dangerous for oil the flow. I have seen good motors destroyed at 130 degree oil temp.

PS; if you are running a 8000 motor, check the valve springs often. One weak exhaust valve spring can destroy a motor.

Well after waiting two months I got my pistons that were suppose to take 2 weeks. Go figure.

These things barely have a skirt at all. Extremely light. Now i just have to get back in the groove and put this thing back together.. Ive been too bust boating lately.

That is light. My wiseco’s Are 484g, no pin or rings. Should give whoever balances it a fun time. What ring package did you go with this time?

ended up going with a total seal package with gapless top ring. From what i can tell people either love or hate the gapless rings. I have never used them so i figured i would give it a shot.

Just a side comparison,,
A Sprint engine dry pumped, turning 9600- 10500,, is good for about 10 race weekends between main and rod bearing service..
NA/Methanol 15 to 25 minute race sessions.. with about a 35K short block.. Top end another 20-30.. Your on the porch with the big dogs..
