Default ls7 dry to wet sump

i read some threads. they seem to all favor compensating for the longer crank......my question is, i have my ls1 from my camaro. i would like to put a forged ls7 short block in it that has been disassembled, inspected, and new rings etc. it has a shorter crank already, and the dipstick has been drilled........i saw a windage tray needs to be modified........can all the parts i need to use be salvaged from my ls1 including the windage tray? i use an ls1/2/6 oil pump, fbody pan and balancer correct?

It has a shorter crank already? And its a dry sump? You need wet oil pump, pickup tube, and use the oil pan and windage tray from your ls1. Its pretty simple. If it had the longer snout you would have to use a balancer spacer that puts the balancer farther down on the snout

24 vs. 58 tooth reluctor on cranks
Knock sensor locations will be different, but can work
front cover on ls7 has cam sensor in it. Your LS1 has cam sensor in rear of block.

It already has a 24 tooth and the short crank cause it was installed already but some stuff will be removed before I get it. So everything inside my oil pan can be bolted onto it without mods? Same with balancer and pump?

I should have rephrased....

I'm considering buying an ls7 shortblock without front or rear covers. It has a 24T wheel on a shorter wet sump crank. I know that to get it to work in my 2000 camaro I will need to address the knock sensors, ls2 front cover.

what oiling needs do I need for this to work, and am I missing anything major

the dry sump cranks are all longer unless it was cut or machined down. I do know that scoggin dickeys sells a spacer that u add to the balancer (like $30) to use a long crank without dry sump. U can use a regular wet sump pan, windage tray, oil pump etc if converting over. there is a lot of good info on the net about this conversion. I think hot rod magazine has a write up on it.

o yea to use a diff windage tray u may need to space it off the crank some to clear the throw. Trial and error!

im not technically doing a conversion as stated earlier. it already has a wet sump crank, im just wondering if all the guts inside an ls1 oil pan will work properly on a ls7 block

If your going to use your f-body pan, I don’t see why the windage tray, and pickup would not work. You’ll have to space it down a little due to the 4” stroke crank. I’d call Improved Racing, and ask the pros. They help me with oil questions, and I use a lot of their stuff.

I did this, few washers on the windage tray would be what you need. The scogging dickey spacer has to have the external diameter machined down if you want to use is with an aftermarket balancer. Just fyi

Yes, everything can be moved over if the ls7 crank was cut to LS snout length

You need to check windage tray to rods and add shims, easy stuff

You say that that crank was cut shorter then common ls snout length, then it would be made for a Jesel timing belt setup and a different balancer offset

Okay, making the swap is simple. Wet oil pump and pickup. Reuse or buy f-body windage and oil pan. Shim the windage down to clear the crank with washers. Then get the crank spacer. If you run an ATI pulley like me you have to get it machined to fit

Yah just make sure you pick the right timing sext to match your crank reluctor and your good to go. There is a article online about making the swap with pics http://www.superchevy.com/how-to/eng...-ls7-wet-sump/
