Default Balancing brand new GM crank?

Just wondering if anybody knows if a brand new GM crank would require balancing? It is the specific crank according to the VIN from the donor vehicle, LY6 engine. My guess is when they need them at he dealership it would be off the shelf and just installed into the engine. Thanks

Normally not, but the entire rotating assembly likely has room for improvement compared to OEM.

Ok thank you, I just read posts about different cranks being balanced for different Pistons. 5.3 to 6.0 and 6.2 etc. Hoping the crank they list is ready to go right in.

If it's listed for the engine you ordered it for, it should be fine.

OEM cranks are balanced using OEM component weights.

If any components are being changed to aftermarket/non-OEM components, then a balance will be required. Are you changing pistons, pins or rods or just putting a crank back in a stock bottom end?

I’m having a tough time finding out if I am using the correct crank even from the GM dealer. I am using a new stock crank, stock rods, Pistons etc. The engine is a 2008 LY6 from a one ton van. There is a ton of different crankshaft part numbers. I figured any 6.0 gen 4 crank should work? I was going to have the rotating assembly balanced for piece of mind. The crank I bought from GM is a 12685653 which says it replaces the old number 12588613. Any ideas?

I find it weird how the 12685653 crank lists for an 09 LY6 but says it is not the right part for an 08?

What would be the benefit of NOT balancing it?? (or at least, checking it)

Other than the cost I can’t see anything. I’m going to have it checked out. Thanks

if it's balanced well{ Holman moody} it could add a lot of life to the motor, if your going to keep it DO IT. if your just going to throw one together and beat the **** out of it, don't worry about it.

Do NOT trust any of the online parts catalogs. They are typically riddled with errors. Cal your local friendly GM Parts Dealer and have them look it up for you.
