Default LS3 oil weight recommendations

I'm not 100% certain what determines the oil weight that needs to be ran in a motor. If I had to guess, the main bearings would be the biggest determining factor.

Having said that, what do you guys think?
LS3
Main bearing clearance: .003
Rings gapped for NA.
LS3 btr stage 4 NA cam
New cam bearings
Block and heads are stock, but freshened up.

My thinking would be around 10w30 or 10w40, but I'm open to advice.

Thanks,

What pump?

A better measurement of an oil’s viscosity is in centistokes. You can have a 10w-30 oil with different centistoke ratings among the different manufacturers. Each have that info on their respective websites

Ah, unfortunately I don't remember for certain. If I recall correctly, it said melling on it when I had it apart long ago. The motor was originally built for boost/nos, but I went through and rebuilt it since it looked like the last guy put the motor together in sandstorm.

I usually like to run royal purple synth after break-in. Currently, I am breaking the motor in with Brad Penn 30w break-in oil.

Did you try asking the engine builder?

Can't go wrong with Amsoil Z Rod 10w30. It has higher zinc for the more aggressive cam.
