[quote=jayyyw]Highly doubt that. His packages have been out a few years and there have been no track numbers. Takes a hell of a driver to run a 9sec pass in a stick vette, let alone a mid 9 second pass. 90% of the HCI vettes have the power to run a 9sec pass but lack the driver's skill to get it to leave well enough. Myself included. Best I ever did was a 10.2 @ 142.5 with a 1.66 60ft.

I've made as much power as a Mamo top end package (on a SBE LS7) with nothing but off the shelf parts. The cam I used was even a blower cam, originally.

I know of 2 that were under 454 that made 700+. I can't find the vette right now but he wasn't a dig car so he didn't have 1/4 numbers. Like most vette guys are that I see posting. Also, a very recent setup with 440 cubes just finished similar to mine made 704whp.

And as far as mid 9's passes, in a car that is set up for dig racing and a good driver it shouldn't be that difficult with close to 700whp but we'll see. My car is set up for dig racing and it's almost as light as a Z so we'll see how it does once I get it figured out and dialed in. Darth is another that has a lot of potential. He ran 10.1 with his previous top end and got kicked out with 1 pass. Like I said. There's definitely some potential for some decent NA passes with Mamo top ends coming up here. I don't see vette guys set up for 1/4 racing with Mamo top ends so I don't think we see the full potential.

A lot of hate for Mamo here man.
I don't believe there is anything wrong with those rockers either.
You should not be seeing valvetrain float.
Tell me what parts you used to make 700rwhp.
I'm curious.

Second, it seems like the price is a misrepresentation. You make it look like $9K for the heads. That's not even close. But I'll play along...

Mast heads just the casting - $1450 each, so $2900.
Valves - $850 for 8 intake valves from manley. $250 for the eight exhaust valves
Springs - PAC 1335, since you like to run lift - $630
Cam - $450
Lifters - Assume you'll run either Jesel or isky? - $1300
CID intake - $1050 if set up for eight injectors, $1500 if set up for 16
Pushrods - $250 for manton custom
Rockers - no YT for you, so likely Jesels or T&D, so est $1500, which is probably low...

We're at $9200 now, without the expensive options, and we haven't done the setting up, retainers, locks, shimming, gaskets, fluids, throttle body not on the list yet. Can play again. Pick the porter's casting you want, then pay for CNC, and you're in the same ballpark. Brodix set up with stainless intake valves is $3600, and if you're cutting costs there, then you've already made the point.

The heads fully set up are only half the cost.

I did do a cheaper LS7 top end set up. Didn't make the power. I could make it make the power. Won't have the reliability. Want power AND reliability? Grab your wallet!
The only good this explanation will do is to everyone else except the person this is directed to.
Smoke is off the rails.

Darth .... The funny part about using a better head layout is the low profile intake... Ls7 casting still needs help. Better valve layout would only expose it more. Brodix castings and porter of choice I've found dealing with the LS7 casting is the best choice for cost and casting for a Ls7 head. Believe me I know stuff is high. Reason I cheaped out and used 300 dollar Ls7 castings.

It needs a lot of help. Raise the runners and longer valves like you get with the aftermarket options is great. That said, I think the LS7 is a tremendous factory casting. Just a shame about the valve concentricity.

You said it and Darin did some stuff on John's heads and rocker set up to eliminate any problem. Told me a trick or two for my cheap castings.

Lotsa bs and poorly translated info here as of recently...good luck to all involved. You can literally see how fast bad info spreads as fact. In before the lock!

NPS gave a thumbs up also and replied this.
Darkmatter will get you some more info. BUT YES you are correct on the Hp with stock stuff. I wasn't involved with the shop at the time of this video. BUT LOOK AT THE DATE, 2012. 700+Hp stock LS7 manifold and throttle body:

But to be honest, we haven't done much on the stock casting head stuff since we started cast out own heads. I think we pushed the stock casting pretty good for the few years till the casting came out.

FYI with the casting AND stock manifold, 780Hp:

NPS ...
Dark, FYI I know there was a post about some 9 second Vette's a page or so back. Surprised. Our guys can't seem to get these things to leave and 60 ft. We have about the same MPH as both those you posted, 139, BUT a year before those articles.

One thing we found out is on Velocity Injection's Mustang MD-AWD1750-DE dyno, the drivetrain loss was 18% @ 6200 RPM. The actual drivetrain loss is greater at 7200RPM, maybe as much as another 4%. We are figuring some of these cars have put out well over 800 CRANK Hp with the stock LS7 intake manifold.

That's because unless you swap out the axle vettes are gear-limited badly. If you go to a taller tire, it's like trying to run a manual on a 3.73. That's why they're a struggle to ET well as manuals. Swap out the IRS for a SRA, and options open up, but then you kind of ruin the car.

I didn't make 700whp, I made 650whp, which is what the greater majority of his combos make, on the high end. In the vette world, I've only seen the one 454ci car make 700whp and that was on a local dyno. Maybe the others were on this forum and not over on the vette forum.

Holley Hi Ram
RPM B3 camshaft
LME ported stock casting heads
1-7/8" headers
Heavy Monster LT1-S clutch (52lbs IIRC)
E85
Made 655whp on a dynapak dyno with a 500rpm/sec ramp rate. Trapped 142.5mph

A lot of reputable shops refer to his package as the "Valve Float Special".

The real fast 6spd cars have 3.90s or 4.10s and run the shorter ratio MZ6 transmission or the equivalent in the Camaro gearset.

I think the dude you're talking about made 700+ with his combo and had a bunch of bad *** passes in the car. Then all of a sudden "valve float". I know the story goes deeper but if that's the only example you got I think I'll stick with Mamo. My buddies who have ran Mamo stuff drive their cars daily, beat the hell out of them and come back to Mamo to help with the next build. And I already posted a 704whp build of 440 cubes.
