I think your thinking of something else. all my current research has shown the few of these out there were super reliable and problem free. havnt found anything about anybody having issues. cant believe more people didn't buy these, they retailed for $9900 and that included a custom spec cam shaft.

Based on what I've read ERL might have had some QC issues with their end of the run engines.

I'm going to pick the engine up in a couple weeks and will be cc'ing a piston and sending cam to get measured. I want the comp more like 14:1. with my math is need a 48cc allpro head to get to just under 12:1. so ill be on the horn with wiesco if they are 28cc pricing a set of flat tops with reliefs.

The lifter bores were bushed and extended downwards and the oil hole heights were revised to use standard lifter heights. Pushrods indeed long. We remember the base circles being around 1.935, but this is from memory. You'll be much better off getting a set of new pistons with the correct volume. Bores were 4.2025 and the compression height was in the 1.110-1.150 range, but you will want to measure the pistons that are in it to confirm before ordering new ones. The NA applications used a 6.800 Carrillo Super A-Beam rods and the boosted versions were designed around a 6.700. The engines didn't overheat, but there was a revision on the gasket that sandwhiched between the deck plate and the block that did a better job sealing.

No problem. Keep us posted. That's a cool piece of history for sure. The reason it got a 10.200 deck height was 4.500 stroke big blocks at that time were usually tall decks with the longer rods. 598 Cid combination BBC's commonly used a 6.7 or 6.8 rod. As a side benefit though, the very bottoms of the pistons skirts barely popped out of the bottom of the bores.
