LOL. I wanted to change the title of the thread, and am not seeing how to do it. Saw your thread go up.. Excited!!! I think the combination of gear tire and RPM is going to do really well for the car.

I have a feeling this thread is going to be locked soon.
I think it would be a good idea at this point.

Be excited because your new engine will be better than your old one!
I'm sure Tony will help you out with things too. He is a good guy..
He truly is. People who have never dealt with him personally just don't know...
Getting a resleeve will definitely make it good again.
Would it be cheaper to just get a new block like I did?
No, it makes it more expensive. The path i've chosen is the cheapest path without cutting corners. The cheapest would be to just role the dice on the stock liners at 4.155 bore, but no thanks. I did look at short blocks, and to get one in aluminum with the titanium rods, no comparison with the path I'm on. Only advantage to going to other route is time. I hate the car sitting.
Also Darth, with the cam specs you can always slightly adjust the specs to suit the larger displacement so you have the same RPM range as before.
You might only need a 1-2 degree later IVC maybe.
Well aware, but no. I'm already at 55.5 IVC, and building for 12.7 compression just to get DCR up to 8.7. I'll keep the specs I have. The cam is still quite large, and is not going to choke the engine back.
Do you think it might be worth getting a new crank so it's stronger?
I think keeping the 4 inch stroke is a good idea.
I have to get a new crank. this one is toast. I thought that was in my list, but I guess it was missing?

If i have typed or posted anything inappropriate in here, please tell me what it is, and I will correct it. I see no reason for the thread to get locked just because I posted some engine carnage. I tried to keep things on a very professional level - even though I'm an amateur engine builder at best. I am a scientist at heart and do R&D for a living. I learn a lot from failure (more than from success), and am not ashamed to post up my mistakes for others to learn from.

New plan sounds good to me.
I understand with the cam specs too.
By the way it was worded I thought you were reusing an LS7 crank. Or maybe it was just the way I read it.
Good to know you are getting a new one.
You haven'y typed anything inappropriate at all.
Because you are starting a new engine build one of the moderators might lock it so you can start a new thread.
Or it might be a continuation.
Personally I will never attempt to build an engine without full guidance.
I appreciate that you put all this up for us to see so it becomes ingrained in our minds to be careful and watchful.
How long do you think it will be till you get this back together and running?

That's where Trendsetters 468 idles, freaking crazy. Sorry for the loss. Just goes to show it doesn't matter if its stock/aftermarket, forged/cast, NA/boost, etc. bad stuff can happen and reliability is a tough thing to achieve even when attention to detail is paid. Maybe I missed it but since you have to get a new cam and you're changing cubes, are you keeping the same cam specs as before?

I see no good reason to lock this. It will be a continuation of the same engine, just being rebuilt from damage. My .02...

two months at the earliest. 5 weeks for the sleeves. 5 weeks for custom pistons, but I can order pistons while the block is getting sleeved. So I figure six weeks to have all the parts ready to assemble.

Agreed. The mods on here are usually very lenient with that stuff. Only real reason to lock a thread is when it gets trashed up by a bunch of name calling, etc. That's about the only time I see one get locked anyway,

I saw that in the tuning thread, and was like holy wow! 88 degrees overlap. gotta be seat to seat. Or else I'm a completed pansy on cam specs not wanting more than 40 degrees. I'm going to keep the same cam specs. Honestly, this cam is already larger than many of the 440 cams I see. Really no reason to bump it bigger.

4. Replacement cam and lifter pair from Cam Motion. Cam spec will be the same.

Found it, thanks.

Damn, if 40 degrees mine is lets just say a bit over half that.

Time frame is good. Looks like you will be finished before me.
I was going to go a custom piston route and fit a 4.160 but it was a 1 month wait from JE.
So there were 4.155 pistons on the shelf and went with those.

The cam I ground has 39 degrees overlap at 50 before accounting for lash. ~33 or 34 net lash.

Damn Darth, that's rough! Hope the next build goes better. At least you found the damage on the crank before it did major damage to the motor.

Onwards and upwards, right?

Thank you. And yessir. Onward and upward. Right now working on rotating assembly. Trying to minimize damage to the wallet.

This one will go great. Chevelle has laid his hands on the bottom end. Its going to be great! Genuinely getting excited for the new bottom end.
