The GMPP/Chevy Performance LS3 heads are available... I think BTR sells them with their dual spring package ready to go for like $1699 shipped. Those are a step up from stock LS3 heads and worth about 30HP over them. Other ported stock castings are slightly better or about the same. But for the price, it's hard to beat them if you want new, CNC machined, and dual valve springs.

I had thought about going that way. AI LS3 heads were something like $2400 ready to go and are the best ported stock heads. Go for about 40rwhp over stock LS3 heads. But for the price, the GMPP ported heads are good. Moving to PRC/MAST/Liberty type aftermarket 11-degree castings are all a big step up, but the cost is greater. Though, the PRC 255s are a smaller runner the LS3 heads and outflow than the GMPPs. But they are $2700+ shipped.

At which point, going to an L92 head and some hollow-stem valves would be cheaper.

I've found that the hollow stem LS3 intake valves are about .025 longer than stock L92's. Is there any real advantage to running these over the heavier L92 valves?

Why about these? https://www.summitracing.com/parts/n...BoCOm8QAvD_BwE

they’re just stock LS3 heads right?

would there be any benefit to sticking with cathedral port heads for this motor? I want a strong motor I can drive everyday.

Those are the heads I'm talking about. But you still need some springs on it with the aftermarket cams.

The price of those plus springs is in that $1600 range.

I'd source some used 821/823 heads ($450-600), LS3 intake, NW 92 TB and it will run great and not have that ugly *** intake. I've got a ported/rod mod LS3 intake w/rails if interested.

With all other things being equal, lighter valves are always better.....lends to a higher degree of valvetrain stability.

Little change of plans. My buddy has 243 heads he’s pretty much giving to me so I’m going to go to with those because Of budget. I’ll run an LS6 Intake or a truck one. What cam should I run with those heads? I was looking at the BTR LS1 stage 2 and the TSP LS1 cam. I think both are 227/231

The 8707 Cam will work well with the 243s as well. It'll actually make a little more topend power at the expensive of a little bit of midrange power. But would still drive nice.

Something like a Cam Motion Titan 4 is also good (227/232 113).

But you're on the right track. That 228/232 range is ideal for an LS1 that wants to make power and still be streetable.

jake, thank you for the help I appreciate it. Would I be better off running the Titan 4 cam over the summit one?

Titan 4 will drive a little nicer with a little more midrange torque. At the expense of top-end power. Depends on what you want.

definitely the mid range and the drivability. Thank you

next question. How big of a benefit would it be to get the TSP stage 1 porting done to the 243 heads?

Probably 25HP or so?

243s are about 20HP better than LS1s, and ported/VJ, they are around 45HP better. The better heads (bigger runner/bigger valve/laid over valve angle) are usually around 60HP better. Give or take a few HP.

TEA and AI also have good programs for the 243s. But I think PRC is the most cost effective.

I have eight LS3 hollow stem intake valves for sale that are still in the box and have never been ran for $300 plus shipping.
