Default Timing Chain question

Hey guys, so can I use the same timing chain from my motor. its a gen IV 5.3 that had the DOD. Obviously I deleted it, lifters, valley cover etc, but can I use the same timing chain? the motor only had 40k on it. Thanks

The chains are the same throughout about all LS engines.

Just want to make sure, Can I ask one more question? I cleaned up my heads pretty good, there is still some gunk on the inside of the exits, is that a big deal or would they be fine if I just put everything back together? Thank you

Edit- Do NOT use Easy Off oven cleaner, as it eats aluminum. Sorry I advised it!

Just spray it inside the ports? How long should I let it sit? Should I scrub with anything?

Is the engine going to be seeing some hard driving? A new chain wouldn't be a bad idea if so. Brake cleaner is also super nice to clean heads with lol. I recall using that and a toothbrush to clean anything left over after I hot tanked mine.

If you are throwing a cam in then a chain might be good for piece of mind. I am not saying you need to, but obviously if you're throwing a cam kit at it then that right there is a decent investment in and of itself. I'd gladly spend $100-$150 on a chain to help ensure I don't lose my investment. A C5R from katech or even a nice ls2 chain will go a long way. 40k miles isn't bad, but if you have it apart and have the funds, then it's a wise investment in my opinion. That stock chain could very well hold up for a long time! This really just depends on how risk averse you are.

TSP sells the C5R chain from Katech, a worthy investment!

When you can buy an entire billet timing set with same or better chain than the c5r, dont JUST get the c5r is my thinking.
We have billet timing sets from $89 with the heavy duty IWIS chain just like the C5r is.

I wouldn’t recommend this. The oven cleaner contains sodium hydroxide and will eat the crap out of aluminum. Would likely pit the aluminum badly.
