Default Texas speed and performance

I’m not a new to this forum I just lost all the info on my old account so I had to start an new one.
ive looked all through this forum and some others that I’m a part of and can’t find any info so I thought I’d finally ask.
I know TSP is a great company people use their heads and cams all the time, but has anyone ever used their other parts cranks, rods, pistons? If you ever look at their kits they offer their own line of products (I know their pistons are weisco special made for them) I’ve never heard of anyone using those parts? So if you have used them or someone you know has post it here tell me the upside and downside any and all Issues if there are any. Thanks in advance guys.

I'm running a 447 from them that uses their crank and rods. Been to 8k rpm many times.

How long have you been running the setup 8k RPM is impressive, is the 8k just on the track or have you ran it at this RPM long term? Is this just a track car or a daily also? Reason I’m asking about daily or track only is I’m wondering vehicle weight, basically anything that’s gonna cause extra stress on the motor and components, for durability Purposes.

Their stuff is basically re-branded Compstar/K1 China junk. My machinst has had all three cranks lined up next to each other and you couldn't tell the difference other than the brand stamp.

No. SOME people think all Chinese products are junk.
The Chinese will make what you want for the price they want, which is still lower than anyone else.
You want shoddy? No problem. Good stuff? Also no problem.
Pay up and get it.
I doubt you have junk parts.

IMO it's not that much better than stock, at least the cranks. I have seen so many go together and get blown up, I don't think they are all that. The China H beam rods seem to hold up well, but that's the only good I can say. I like the stock LSA/LS7-turned down cranks way better. The downside of those is flexplate/flywheel is unique and more $$$. My next motor is getting either a Callies Magnum or a stock cast crank depending on rpm/finances, that's it. Either is getting Carrillo rods(maybe Saenz rods, also made in USA). Probably a 100 stroker guys will post their China stuff is "awesome" , but a 1000 more boosted guys will call a stock crank "awesome". Everybody will have an opinion on it.

The compstar cranks appear to be a pretty good piece. Forged 4340 steel and poured by the chinese but finished off in the USA where the quality and sonic checks are done.
Obviously not as good as the dragon slayer or the magum variants but I doubt they are weaker than a stock crank.

See now that’s what I was looking for. I figured it was all just rebranded since their pistons are just weisco’s with TSP etched or printed into them. I’m getting ready to do one of two builds and wanted to know if I should just go with their parts to save some money, but I’m not gonna try to save money and sacrifice reliability and performance.

This is where I’m running into some of my dilemma. If I boost my motor it’s gonna be a long way away really just wanting to do a real quality build saving where I can. I have a 6.0 with 190xxx and a 5.3 with 30xxx either way I was gonna get rid of most of the factory parts. Other than the heads. I have a corvette grand sport cam with the same miles as the 5.3 I was just gonna do a port and polish on the heads, intake, and Tb and throw that cam in, but I don’t think it would give me the horsepower I’m looking for even with a good tune.

So, honestly, TSP sells not only their own stuff as you noticed but also high quality made in USA parts. They are the ones that need to stand behind what is sold to you. It is in their best interest to recommend the correct part. It is up to you to decide to follow that recommendation or not.

Talk to them and be honest about your goals and they will recommend the right parts.

I didn't say they were weaker, just not that much stronger. I would love to see someone do a metallurgical test on them and see if it's really 4340 you are getting. From what I have heard, Scat, Eagle, Molnar, TSP, Compstar and K1 are all out of the same foundary. What you are buying is the finish machining, quality being different from all of them. Most people don't know is that there are only a handful of foundries in the world that can make crankshaft blanks, so what you are buying is only coming from a select few(kinda like the battery market, but that's another story). Here is the reality that I have personally seen. No one in professional motorsports such as road racing, circle track, or offroad use china cranks/rods at least that I have seen or heard of. There may be some players at the lower levels w/ but, I am not searching the whole field of each sport. I have seen grass roots road race motors come into shop with broken cranks(torsional stress break) and they are usually Eagle/Scat. I have seen stock oem cranks break also, but the level of abuse or fubar'd tune was more to blame than the actual part. Again, this is what I have seen, feel free to make your own conclusion from it.

Outline your goals, there are a lot of good resources on here to help get you there.

So what exactly are you building? Are you looking to do some type of endurance boosted build? Any particular class or rules?

Didn't the compstar cranks used to be made in the USA?

The bottom end is not some place you should be cheap and its your power goals that should dictate which way to go.

I'm running a dragon slayer in the 427 but purchased the weaker Compstar rods and I my future plans are to someday have twins making sick power and there's only so much that connecting rod can take. I've heard they can withstand a lot though.

I currently have an 04 trailblazer EXT with the 5.3 if the trade goes through I will have an 06 trailblazer SS that the mounting holes for the starter broke. Either way one of them is gonna get an engine.
There’s been work done to my EXT, but I don’t know the extent.
I haven’t decided which engine to build I have a 6.0 w/190xxx and a 5.3 w/30xxx. I don’t plan on racing any, other than maybe stop light to stop light, as I’m bad about keeping my foot out of the pedal even on the streets and highways.

My initial plan was to just port and polish the heads, intake,TB on the 5.3 and drop in the 30xxx mile corvette Grand Sport cam I have, and the LS3 intake/TB and injectors, but I’m sure that won’t be enough for me. Not that I necessarily wanna keep the TB. I kinda wanna sell the TB (If the trade falls through) And get an SS or a GTO. That’s also why I’m contemplating what to do. I could just throw all the parts I have into the current motor and sell it for more so I can get what I want. I’m either gonna build the 6.0 into an NA 408 or I’m gonna do a 383 out of the 5.3 and boost it. No matter what I’m looking for at least 6 to the wheels with room to grow because nothing is ever enough.

This is true, from my understanding the rods take more abuse and stress than any other part in a motor.
