You made the right choice.
You will see how good it drives once completed.

Deep down I knew this is the route I should go. I'm excited to get the thing together.

Well, things are morphing just a tad. After a long conversation with Tony, we decided to go with a new head he is working on MMS225x(TFS casting finished by hand) 2.08/1.57 66cc chambers for 10.6:1. The head flows really close to the 235 it with the added velocity from the small runners. Cam is 227/232 638/610. Knowing it will not carry far past peak but with this engines first purpose that is a perfect range. I am hoping we create a curve as flat or close to it as the other 416's a few days ago. With 6-8week lead time on the heads, we wait.

That's something I was not expecting to see.
I'm surprised Tony would use a trickflow and not his own AFR casting for this project.
Why not use a 220 AFR casting?
One thing for sure, that smaller runner will have explosive torque off idle and in the mid range.

I was surprised also, I didn't know it was TF until he sent me the list. We just talked about the 225x heads. Either way, this was based partly on the success of the 223 heads on another 416 build. It was dosimeter here a while back. The 408 changed to a 416 but, the cam and top end carried over from the original recipe. It made great HP/TQ numbers for such an odd combo. We shall see. He raised the lift to take advantage of the higher flow numbers of these heads beyond .600. Now I'm just sitting and waiting. Hopefully the short block assembly will make some time pass by more quickly .

Tony was with AFR for along time, and I bet he knows the strengths/weaknesses of every aftermarket head out there. AFR is very good, but for sure not the only game in town.
My guess (and that's ALL it is...lol) is that the TF head, IN THIS CASE, was what the Dr. ordered.

Either way, with Tony's massaging they perform!

What you get from Tony is no guessing. He utilizes the data he’s collected for decades now, to produce a combo that will not disappoint or offer surprises. If Tony has changed something in this setup, it’s because during the two hours of sleep he got the night before, he came up with something better. His mind never leaves work, rarely if ever.

I told him when the conversation started, I trust what you tell me and ultimately we go with your recommendations. Then I shared my thoughts and goals and this was the final results. I'm sure it will be outstanding within the parameters of deign criteria. Not meant to be a High HP build but a very solid HP with a flat TQ curve for the intended use. I am happy with the selections. Honestly his camshaft was a little larger than some and smaller than others, but it is a the right piece with the events it provides.

And No, I don't believe he sleeps ...

Damn, I thought I was the only one that comes up with brilliant chit right before I wake up. If I woke up earlier, I wouldn't have to sift through that chit. Hmmm. I guess it's good that I realize that his chit is better than mine...

I prolly missed it with watching all the ls3416 stroker builds, What cam specs ya gonna run? Did tony talk you out of the VVT cam?

being a cathedral port head, Did GM have different cam gear bolt? Whatever it’s called on the VVT I always wanted to build a VVT 416 stroker. But never will ::::::. pulling out my empty pockets:::::::::

Tony gave me a non-VVT spec of 227/232 114+3. 638/610. He was not interested in discussing the VVT at this time. I do have a request in to Pat G for a VVT spec. Waiting for that to come back.
I'm hoping to build a VVT also, but I do have the cam Tony spec'd coming also.

I just received my cam specs from Pat G.
224/230 117+6 598/598 based on PGN lobes from cam motion.

That is real close to what everyone was quoting except the wider LSA and higher advance to accommodate for the VVT.

Here's a different question, how much is too much DCR for 93 octane?
