Default Is this cam too big for the street?

Newbie question here guys, fair warning..

Just picked up a fresh LS3 specs below.

L99 pistons
King XP bearings
Complete CNC'd 823 heads

Comp cam springs/lifters/pushrods/cam

Cam Specs:

Gross Valve lift INT:.627 EXH: 596

Durataion at .50 INT:243 EXH:252 --Lobe lift .3690 INT .3510 EXH

114 lobe separation

I'm going to check the PTV clearance as i've understood from a friend this cam is pushing it. The car will have a t56 mag behind it and will be a street car 95% of the time. I like a radical cam, but drivability is also a factor and if it means spending a little more $ on a different cam then i'd rather do it once while its on the stand.

I appreciate any insight guys.

If you get it tuned well enough not to buck too much it might be OK.
It's a lot more than I would use though, especially for 95% street use. I would never cam for the 5%....

I would not use a BTR Stage 4 on the street either.
Since you can right now, why not slip a cam in there that you KNOW will behave nice on the street, and still lope as you like it?

https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...ls3-combo.html

you might find that thread helpful. OP went through a few configurations from too small to too big to just right on LS3 cam, heads, and intake. Ended up with a very good combination for street and strip. You'll find it amusing, but his bolt-ons set up went as fast as his max effort HCI set up (10.5x) due to not being able to gear to take advantage of the high RPM power.

That camshaft specified I think is way too big for a daily driver in that size engine.Would it even fit without flycutting?Even if it did, it would be flat down low and the mid range with an IVC of 53.I would say something like a 226/234 114 lsa +3 would be something you could live with.

Ok, im convinced. Cam swap looks to be what will happen. Would it be highly unadvisable to use the comp springs etc. i already have and just swap out the Cam?

Been happy with comp dual springs on many LS motors for street and drag strip up to 7800 rpm.

I don't see vehicle weight, rear gear or tire height. In the right chassis with an intake to go 7500+, grabbing gears >7200 could be lots of fun! Although compression not high enough to get the most out of this cam.

I had a BTR Stage 4 and drove it on the street. It was a great cam. I never had a problem and would easily run one again. My car is only 2300 lbs., which might have made a difference, but other than that, it is the same as your engine. T56, 3.7 rear gears.

I think a very light car makes a huge difference with a cam that makes no appreciable power just off idle. Not as much inertia to overcome.

Nice cam for a 454 cubic inch motor and like 12 to 1 compression.

What vehicle is this going in? I am in the middle of a big cam mistake right now. I should've listened to others in the know as it would've been much easier while it was on the engine stand. It sounds good but is either floating the valves due to not enough spring or I've already got a broke spring. No fun

Car specs:
78 T/A
3:42 gears
25.6in tire diameter
T56 from American Powertrain
Car weight should be around 3,600 but i have not weighed it on the scales
