Default How can I tell the difference between LS3 VS L99 intake valves

I am looking for any ways that you can tell by a picture if there are any ways to confirm a lightweight LS3 valve from the 821 heads verse the solid ones in 823 heads.
Person has no way to show the weight on a scale to prove.
But I just bought a pair of 823's and want to upgrade to LS3 valves.

Thank you and have a safe one!

Two come to mind. One being the weight and the other the length above the keeper groove on the valve.

LS3 valves are hollow stem and much lighter coming in at 89 grams and the top of the valve is about .025 taller than the heavier L92 valve that comes in 823 heads.

Tell this person that little digital scales are available at any Walmart or probably nearly any corner dollar store.

Theres a thread already posted from years ago that shows the different weights, and has a couple pics of both valves side by side. Shouldn’t be too hard to find with a search.

The head on the solid stem L92 intake valves look to have a more rough “as cast” finish, while the hollow LS3 intake valves are fully machined.

Easiest way to tell is looking at the valve tip. The ls3 hollow stems have the part number printed on them whereas the other ls3 variants do not. Also, if you clean the valves you'll have a pretty nice finish to the head of the valve on the hollow. The solid ones look like your generic cast valve.

Also if you were to hold both in your hands there is a noticeable difference in weight lol
