I think there’s maybe a canyon type gap in between where people start and end with stuff like this. Billy is the ultimate engineer. He also gets to work with the best racing teams in the world at the highest level. When he can reference things like pro stock and 24hr endurance racing as examples..I don’t think the average guy is getting to that level. Best we can hope is trickle down technology into the aftermarket. Needles are probably “worse” or at least riskier vs their benefits until suddenly they’re better on a perfectly optimized combo AND will stay together.

I think joe blow racing that is throwing parts together off the shelf will likely benefit from a bushed lifter because unless you’re lucky and catch a weird lash adjustment or the needles fall through the engine we don’t have the r&d budget to spintron or dyno test endlessly to get the last bit that makes a needle bearing better than a bushing.

Interesting to read about the advantages though I have to say I’ve never seen a legitimate case for needle bearings anywhere except the rocker arm tip, and I dismissed those thinking that a bushing would be better.

How do i figure what components that I need? Like springs, I was wanting to run a 1.8 rocker ratio , how do I assure I’m not going to experience coil bind?

Each cam lobe has a Recommended spring... Working with a certain rocker ratio Size.
As said when you pick a lobe you'd ask that manufacturer what's the recommended open spring pressure, seat pressure....etc. they being someone like comp cam may have a spring but you can use other springs knowing the Pressures needed from the recommendation from the cam manufacturer.
