I do think you'll be successful, but still that's a lot of pressure. Running them way down on the plunger seems like a good idea, but actually getting that measured right w/ alum block expansion is going to be a little tricky, just guessing. Can't wait to see the results. I would ask around for what oil to run. I would guess the oil is the saving grace at those spring rates in a car that's actually driven.

Typically, i'd run VR1 20-50 (it's what my builder recommends for the clearances he uses) but we think VR1 and meth don't play well together. There was some delamination going on with my bearings and another engine had pitting on the crankshaft and also delamination on his bearings. He was using M1 as his primary fuel source while I was only using it as supplemental fuel but went through a few gallons in the short time the car was running. Going to stick with a 20w-50 weight oil just not sure what brand I will be going with.

I run Mobil 1 15w50 in everything I build basically. Has worked very well. That being said, your application is extreme. I would want a synthetic w/ some zinc in it and a good additive mix to cushion everything. I would think it's worth your time to look into what oil to run. May be the difference in driving vs fixing at that level. JMO, I do like VR1 for anything flat tappet cam, but have never run that in anything roller. Roller always gets synthetic as far as I'm concerned. I ran my LS2 over 200k since new on Mobil 1 and the mains looked brand new when I tore it down.

I ran Mobil 1 15w-50 for a while and I liked it. Didn't have any issues with it. Definitely going to look into it

ok im not trying to be a debbie downer here, but johnson says absolutley no 50 weight oils with their lifters.......

not trying to **** on anyones parade here, first with the seat pressures and now this. i had 50 weigh oil in mine for break in. had a few issues where it looked like valve control issues, called johnson and they said get rid of the 50 weight.......never really figured out the problem 100%, but we did have to change the tune after the oil swap.....i think it was running richer on the 40 weight which obviously means something changed

Been running 50 weight oil in Johnson lifters for years. Also ran 50 weight oil in Morel lifters and didn't ever have any issues, lol.

I'm not scared to run these with a little more spring pressure. Worst case, I pull the heads off and throw in some BAM solid lifters. There's no progression without trying. Plenty of people have been running hydraulic lifters with 700+ open pressure without issues.

Looked up the spring specs last night. seat pressure is 180 and 700 open, good for .800" lift. Will be a little higher shimmed up. Valvetrain is going to be light. Everything should be plenty happy.

Goal this go around is 800whp or bust.

Little bit of good news has been trickling in. Intake and exhaust valves are acquired, guides as well. Head guy is just waiting on the castings. No ETA on that yet.

Received the new cam the other day. 26X/27X .800 115+4 on MGZ lobes (LST).

My shortblock is next in line with my builder.

Took out a BUNCH of weight from the car. Still trying to find a few more places to pull from. 27XXlb without me in it is looking achievable. Would end up right at 3k with me.

The closer everything gets, the more exciting it is. Trying to have it together and tuned by mid February. There's a event in Houston at the end of the month. 1/4mi racing. If that doesn't happen, next is a 1/2mi event early March. It's going to be close, all depending on the heads.

Winner! It's going to be a killer. It's a shame, for me, that you got that much weight out of your Vette. Happy for you, but I wanted to take a shot at the title when I get my Riv on the road. With that much weight off and you on E, my combo won't cut it. Still looking forward to some runs, though! Hopefully will have the basics of mine done in a little over a year. I am leaning towards the Greg Good CID heads for my build, but waiting to see how the shortblock works out with the rpm I want to turn.

Can't wait to see what you ultimately put together. I'm sure it won't be a slouch and tough to beat in any regard.

Just hope mine stays together a while, lol.

Crazy times. 2-3 years ago, you could get a GM sleeved block new for under $3k. Now they are $5k and up.

Yup, and the wait is 5-6 months if you're lucky. Gonna give it a few days. If I can't find anything, going to continue as originally planned.

May have found a sleeved LC9 block. Worth the cost of 15-20hp over a LS2/3/7? Likely be the only thing i can get my hands on. Definitely worth the cost of the stock LS7 sleeves taking a dump in 2-3 months and having to do it all over again.

Vacuum pump and possibly converting to wet sump should negate those losses. Almost a no brainer.

I am doing an LC9 sleeved for my Riv also. It is def stronger and if you are going to hammer it, then yeah it's worth it. The dry sump/vacuum cleaner pump does negate the pressure issues. Should be a winner.

Best part is my LS7 block is still good, so selling that will ease a little of the up front cost on the sleeved block.

Purchased a sleeved LC9. It's getting punched out to 4.125 and then shipped to my builder's shop.
Head guy says he should have the castings this week.
Already has the valves, springs, guides, locks. Waiting on spring locators he sent out to get hardened.

A little light at the end of the tunnel..... Should have the sleeved block sometime next week. Builder has a few engines in front that need to be done before Tx2k, so hopefully it doesn't take too long.

Should have the heads in the next 2 weeks or so.

Won't make the Quick 30 event, that's for sure. Maybe the half mile? Idk, not gonna rush it.
